Update KB3000850 fails to install

Hi there,

I have a problem installing update KB3000850. It downloads and appears to install OK until the computer restarts to complete the installation. It gets to about 8% of configuring windows updates and then I get the following message:

failure configuring windows

undoing changes

The computer restarts and is usable. I don't know a great deal about windows error reporting but I checked the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS log and found the following message:

CBS Failed installing driver updates [HRESULT - 0x80070003 - ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND]

I checked the Event Viewer and found the following message in the Windows Logs\System section:

Event ID: 7023

Source: Service Control Manager

The Windows Modules Installer service terminated with the following error:

The system cannot find the path specified.

I have no idea which path it cannot find. I have tried running the SFC and DISM commands and have tried the Windows Update Automated Troubleshooter but none of these seem to fix it. I understand there is a problem with the Avast anti-virus software but I am running Norton 360. I am using Classic Shell and am not sure if that is causing the problem but don't want to uninstall it if the error is being caused by something else.

Any help or advice would be most gratefully received.

    This is a place to dig further.  Now use this timestamp and event context to find more details about this event in CBS.log.  Depending on how much activity there has been since then you may have to look in one of the archived portions.

    Thanks for your help, I renamed the DISM log and in the one that was created I found the following warnings and errors:

    When I check C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism log it doesn't make much sense. Most of it appears to be in Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters.

    Just delete or rename the dism.log.  A new one will be begun the next time it is needed.  Otherwise note that you can redirect and filter the output from DISM using additional command line syntax.

    I have already looked at the steps suggested by UweFurchheim and I do have the following directories:

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessibility

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Tablet PC

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools

    I managed to locate these directories using a Command Prompt. What is unusual, however, is that I cannot see them with File Explorer (and I have selected to show Hidden items). I'm not sure I have the same error as such described in that link as mine seems to relate to a path not found when installing a driver update. The error in my C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS log is as follows:

    The source file could not be downloaded.

    I don't believe the Update Readiness Tool can be used with Windows 8.1
