How to fix 100% disk usage in Windows 10

This is caused by a common combination of Skype as well Google Chrome. Similar issue with other programs could also cause 100% disk usage. To fix this do the following:

Google Chrome:

In Google Chrome, go to Settings > Show Advanced Settings ... > Privacy > Prefetch resources to load pages more quickly

and untick it. See Figure-1 below:

Figure-1

Skype:

Make sure you have exited Skype and it is not running in the taskbar (if it is running in the taskbar then quit it).

Open Windows Explorer and open the following folder:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone"

Now right click "Skype.exe" file and then click "Properties" and open the "Security" tab.

Click the "Edit" button and then highlight "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES" and place a tick in the "Write" box.

Click "Apply" and then "OK" and then "OK" again. See Figures-2 to Figure-6 below:

This is it, now run Skype and check the Disk Usage in Task Manager and it will no longer show you 100% disk usage anymore:-

I hope this helps people. I spent a long time in finding a solution to this problem.

Yes, many sources says it is not a bug.  But booting up the computer I need to wait for more than 5 minutes for 100% disk activity to stop is just ridiculous.  This is not limited to after boot up, it can pop up randomly and at the most inopportune time.

If superfetch and prefetch do not work, try this. It is 100% guaranteed to fix this stupid bug.

    1. Go to Settings > System > Notifications
    2. Turn off 'Show me tips about Windows'

I believe this will fix the problem (I turned off the all the notifications except app notifications)

It hasn't happened since restarting after doing that.

100% Disk usage is not the bug - it is a normal situation UNLESS the PC user is locked out. I have put my discussion a blog: Wordpress blog

I had exactly the same issue. Trying to stop the wsappx service. Change chrome prefetch. Change skype user privacy. Forced stop wsappx. Reinstall win10 it is still persist. It will constantly made my pc not responding and high spin sound can hear from the disk it self. Something is wrong. When i observe on resource monitor. Wsappx contribute most of the usage. Even up to 4million KBps. Ridiculous. And even after i stopped it. Tje wsappx still continue to use up my disk. Is there any other way to cure this issue. Tried to download the latest copy of win10 from microsoft site and end up the same issue. Scanned through my disk with 3 differ antivirus or malware apps given healthy result for my disk. Fyi this is brand new disk. Really pissed off
