I've had this same problem as many of you here. I wanted to add my 2 cents because I see the topics get muddied with the Windows 10 issue. I too tried to upgrade to Windows 10 and after a certain set of updates the wireless adapter stopped working. That's when I chatted with Samsung and was told that the XE500T1C-A02CA is NOT COMPATIBLE with Windows 10.
Went back to Windows 8.0. Tried to update to Windows 8.1 (like many of you) and had the same issue with the Realtek Sound Driver. I used the USB/ISO method because it was the fastest and I could re-do it over and over again as I played with different combinations. After all the playing I have found the following: The issue occurs when the Chipset Driver and the Realtek Sound Driver are installed together. You can install only the Realtek Sound driver a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on this device and it can reboot fine (although the sound still does not work because it needs something from the chipset driver before it will actually function).
So - I've reached out to Samsung, got in touch with a tier 2 tech and convinced him to open a case, to set this up in a lab, and test to see if they can replicate the problem. They even gave me a case number to follow up with. Here is an excerpt from my longer chat with them:
**Curtis:******Hey Arnold
**Arnold:******Hello Curtis!
**Arnold:******I see that after updating from Windows 8 to 8.1 you are having issue with sound driver and chipset drivers.
**Curtis:******Yes sir.
**Curtis:******Plenty of documentation out there about this issue.
**Curtis:******on a Samsung 500T
**Arnold:******I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
**Arnold:******Yes, we at support do not have an option to access any third party website.
**Arnold:******As per the previous agent, I have also checked the database and I see that there is no such reported issues.
**Arnold:******However, I will take this as a feedback.
**Arnold:******Just to confirm, did you try recovery?
**Curtis:******I've played with this for two weeks now. I had to install 8.1 using a USB with the 8.1 ISO on it. That's the only way it works.
**Curtis:******I narrowed it down by selectively installing the latest drivers manually.
**Curtis:******Again - there are many folks out there who need help with this. Something in the Sound driver and The chipset drivers for 8.1 (and even the 8.0 chipset drivers - because I tired that too) have a conflict.
**Curtis:******Can you install 8.0 on a 500T and then do the upgrade to 8.1 yourself in a lab to re-crate the issue?
**Curtis:******I think it may have something to do with the power management componet withing the chipset driver and the Realtek sound driver.
**Arnold:******I am sorry; we do not have an option to do it now.
**Arnold:******However, we will surely try it and check the issue.
**Curtis:******When
**Curtis:******And how can I follow up?
**Curtis:******I can run the machine the way it is - but I have no sound. I'd have to use bluetooth speakers.
**Curtis:******If you install the sound driver - and reboot - it hangs and you have to start from scratch again.
**Curtis:******I would like to help you solve this problem. Many customers would be thankful to get this resolved.
**Curtis:******We need a sound driver that works.
**Arnold:******Sure, we will check with our appropriate department as they have an option to do it and will come with a fix.
**Curtis:******When?
**Curtis:******And how can I follow the progress?
**Arnold:******Please provide me with the below details to file a reference ticket.
**Arnold:******Email address
**Arnold:******Name
**Arnold:******Address with Postal code
**Arnold:******Phone Number
**Arnold:******Serial Number of the tablet PC
[REDACTED]
**Curtis:******What is your e-mail address?
**Curtis:******I would like to be able to follow up with you if I don't hear from you.
**Arnold:******I am sorry; we at support do not have an option to access Email.
**Arnold:******If you wish to send an email, you can send it by accessing below link.

**Arnold:******Please make a note of the reference ticket ID 11195*****.
SO - I am trying to get them to replicate this so that they can then follow up with either an updated chipset driver or an updated sound driver.
Stay tuned.
{No guarantees on timeline here - but at least I have a case number}
