I did go back on Samsung's Live Chat and asked about the Windows 8 disk that they were going to send me back in April. It seems they are out of stock now and I need to check back in, in a couple of days, to find out when they will be back in stock.

Hi, I have a Samsung XE500T1C slate that till the beginning of March was working great. After a Windows update the slate never booted back into Windows. A system restore worked fine till the next week when the Windows updates were re-installed. Regrettably my restore point was gone and I had to restore to factory and then upgrade to Windows 8.1.
After the update to 8.1 I was again not able to boot up. Restarting in safe mode and eliminating devices one at a time revealed the Realtek I2S audio device was causing the problem. Searching Bing (ok it was Google that found it) shows other have the same issue.
As long as I leave the audio device disabled my slate works fine. When I enable it audio works but the camera operational LED turns on. Then if I restart the slate it never boots back up and its back to safe mode to disable the Realteck I2S audio device.
Windows 8.1 is fully updated. My slate system software is fully updated...All updates are in place so please don't suggest that!
Removing the Windows updates that came down on March 10th did not work.
Any ideas how to get audio back?

I'm guessing sending it to Samsung will be unsuccessful since the issue seems to involve not only Samsung, but Microsoft and Realtek also. If you do end up going that route, please keep us all in the loop as to how it works out.

2015-07-02T00:35:50+00:00 I am glad I stumbled across this. I have had the same problem with mine and it also started in March with 8.1 upgrade. Samsung support chat sent me a Windows 8 disk, but it was a 64 bit version like the other guy got. 3 different rep on the chat have told me the 32 bit disk is on the way, but I haven't seen it yet. As last resort, I was going to send it to Samsung's repair center, Intelisol, for a free quote on fixing it.

2015-07-01T17:39:30+00:00 Win 10 won't install from Win 8.0...has to be 8.1. And you can't install 10 from 8.1 w/ sound working because 8.1 won't boot with the Realtek driver installed. I installed 10 from an 8.1 build without the Realtek driver and once 10 was all built and working, I installed the Realtek driver and the computer then hung on boot just like it does when you install the Realtek driver in 8.1. Then I installed 10 from the ISO and once it was built installed the Realtek driver and had the same result...hung on boot.

2015-07-01T14:31:15+00:00 I wonder if one were to roll back either to Windows 8.0 with the sound drivers working, or roll back to a FRESH build of Windows 8.1 without the sound drivers installed and then install windows 10 over that... if that would make a difference in the outcome.
Not knowing if any drivers from Windows 8.x are forward compatible with Windows 10 and therefore not replaced on the installation of the new OS, I don't know that just installing Win 10 over a "broken" Windows 8.1 is a valid test of whether Win 10 solves or doesn't solve the problem.
