Age of Mythology - Windows 10

I haven't read all of the posts on this thread, but Win10's  malware  - AKA DRM Blocking has been mentioned in some posts.

• Note that this only applies to the disk based version of games that use  SafeDisk.

Download versions do not have the DRM Blocking issue.

DRM Blocking is my pet hate with Win10, so if interested, read my rant, with options to circumvent

this malware   ---here---

• Since the advent of DRM Blocking on Win10 MS has also subversively installed their special malware

'feature' on to Win7/8/8.1 via  Windows security updates.

[ If AOM does use SafeDick you can find an AOM noCD fix   - here - age-mythology  .  This is a simple executable replacer.

• Open the games install folder and move the aom.exe to a new folder that you create (as backup).
• Extract the aom.exe file from the download zip folder and move the aom.exe to the location the original

file was in. The .nfo file that comes with the noCD fix is not required. You can delete it.

• Download the fix that suits the version you have the game patched to. ]

[EDIT:  Note that re-released disk based versions of this game may have had the DRM removed, or changed.

This is fairly common with re-released games, particularly those that include expansion packs, such as the one

being used by Westfalen ( post on page 10 ). ]

I have both the retail and the steam edition. The steam edition installed but immediately after launch says not responding. The retail starts to install, it hangs at preparing to install.

Wine in linux plays Windows games but without sufficient hardware, performance suffers. My main squeeze is an UBUNTU box but doesn't have the nads to virtualize a flight sim.

The whole security thing reminds of ancient Athens giving up her beauty for security. Of course, we can blame the Spartans.

CAELinux for research and development

QOS4 for an XP look-a-like.

Mint for a lightweight Linux

Knoppix for a live USB stick w/ persistent memory (UNIONFS)

Drivers are a concern.

Not letting me open the file as chrome recognises it as malware?

I think you will find that browsers have some new security features which will block downloads from sites

that are 'reported' as being suspect (Firefox also blocks the downloads, but has only recently begun doing so).

• With firefox the message relates to PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) vs  malware.

You can get PUPS from many sources including such things as Adobe Flash Player

( Chrome is set for automatic download and you have to clear the tick box to prevent it installing ).

Due care an diligence is best practice with any download.

[EIDT: There may also be other software on this site that does contain PUP's, but I've never encountered

a noCD with anything of this nature.]

• Considering that sites such as this have enemies in the industry I would not be surprised their downloads

are reported  as being suspect.

Having said that. I can't give any guarantee of safety, but I did download one AOM fix that suits Patch 1.05

and scanned it with Avast, and it came up clean.

I've been using noCD's from this site for about ten years with no problems, and most of the noCD fixes

were created long ago. Generally within a month of a games release.

• Or... Use option 2 -  if you don't want to take the risk, submit to MS's  extortion  and

buy the game again from a download site -
