I recently purchased a custom built pc packed with windows 8.1 which I upgraded to Windows 10.

I installed Age of Mythology yesterday and when I try to run the game nothing happens. I have tried all compatibility suggestions and I get the same result.

I also have this same problem with black and white 2.

I have a NVIDIA Geforce gtx 980 graphics card installed in my pc.

Can you provide any suggestions please.

Thank you.

Have you the disk or downloaded version ?

No other option ? Yes there is one but not too legal and somewhat risky : download a no CD crack...

But have we really the choice ?

    Hi,

Well yes it is a bit risky to use a no cd crack, specially because its an old game and most links have expired. It seems that those that are still available could potentially have virus.

The other problem with the no cd crack is that most of them can't be used to play online. I remember there was a trick you could do by going to the registry and modify certain parameters to be able to play in ESO with the no cd loader. Unfortunately I don't know how it is done.

I have the old CDs, the vanilla and the TE. All this situation is tempting me to buy the Expanded Edition but I am doubtful as I am afraid that it won't run as well.

    Has anyone tried it?

I am using Win8.1, but after getting an automatic Windows update, my AOM and AOE III suddenly stopped working.  I called Microsoft and they referred me to the AOE website and told me to send an email and call the phone number listed there.  But I've found online that the website is not maintained anymore.  I did call and send the email, but never got a reply.   I told Microsoft that AOM/AOE is created by Microsoft Studios, so why can't they give me an answer?!  I also read the update I got was auto-downloaded on my computer even though I didn't ask for it (it's apparently linked to the pre-setup for Win 10 in case I want it (which I don't).  Now, I don't know exactly which download it was, so I don't want to randomly uninstall downloads on my computer that might affect other functions.  So basically, there's no help from Microsoft and now I can't play AOM/AOE on my computer anymore.  The only way is to go back to my old laptop with Windows Vista...I think that would still work.

I don't know much about computers, and I read some instructions on how to possibly fix the problem.  But I don't understand it...and it requires changing computer settings and programs, so I don't want to fiddle with that in case something goes wrong and wrecks my computer...

I had the same problem with Windows 7 Pro.  The update was probably KB3086255 and the solution to make AoM work again was described in MS15-097 (Microsoft Security Bulletin 15-097).  I think I posted the links in this thread already.  :)

The device driver secdrv.sys was determined to be a security risk, so disabled by MS.  To temporarily enable it for the game, you'll use the DOS command prompt.  You can do a 'search' for the command prompt.  When you find it, right click on it to use as admin, or as an 'elevated command prompt.'  You'll get the black command prompt window with white text.  You should see something like 'c:\windows\system32>' where you type 'sc start secdrv' and enter to manually start the driver again.

When you are through playing, you can disable it again, for security, using the elevated command prompt 'sc config secdrv start= disabled' and enter.

I also found the only way to start my AoM program is to right click on it in the program list or shortcut and select run as admin from the drop down menu.

I love this game so much I rolled back Windows 10, which would not allow me to play it.  I understand the secdrv.sys driver does not come with Windows 10.

    Thanks very much Microsoft.

I have just returned from being abroad working for six weeks and my computer which I rolled back to Windows 7 has updated and now AOM games are not working.

I have tried the Command prompt SC START SECDRV to no avail, I just get the message "The service cannot be started either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it".

Microsoft you excel at annoying your customers.

As I said at the beginning thank you, and goodbye.
