Windows Update issue - Definition Update reoffered

This issue cropped up immediately after Windows Update installed two definition updates for Windows Defender consecutively. Windows Update started offering definition 1.193.3002.0 after the definition updates were installed, which was unexpected as a later version was installed through the updates. After installing 1.193.3002.0, Windows Update offered update 1.193.3192.0, and started offering 1.193.3002.0 immediately after installing 1.193.3192.0. I do have a recent system image backup (stored in another partition). I have tried manually resetting Windows Update (using the instructions I found on Microsoft Support) to no avail. I have restarted my computer multiple times. Both sfc and DISM found no problems with my computer. I downloaded and installed MBAM (free version) and ran a scan with it, which did not turn anything up.  Should I just restore my computer from my system image backup?

the Windows Defender UI indicated that update 1.193.3192.0 is installed. However, Windows Update is still offering (and automatically installing and looping) update 1.193.3002.0

I am running Windows 8.1 64bit with all updates (except for the pesky definition updates thingy) installed. I had a McAfee trial thingy installed quite some time ago, but I uninstalled it and ran MCPR (from the McAfee site) afterwards. I haven't made any changes to my computer in the past couple of weeks.

Turning Windows Defender off, restarting, and turning it back on did not resolve the problem. Dangit.

    This has NOT been fixed, I am still having the same issue.

    I was basing my statement on my experience with 3 pc's and others who have posted on here and in Windows 8 Forums.  Many people are no longer having this problem.

    The real point of my post was that this is not to find a way to avoid Windows Defender by switching to another anti-virus as some are suggesting.  It is to find a way to FIX Windows Defender's problem.

    Sorry you are still having problems.  This does not seem to be the "norm".  Hope you get it sorted out.

    You've probably done this, but have you manually clicked the "check for updates" button in the control panel version of Windows Update?

    So far this seems to be resolved on 3 of my Windows 8.1 64-bit systems. (Thankfully!)

    This morning I went to "Windows Update Trouble Shooter"  and went thro' that ...... it said Problem Found--Potential Windows Update Database error---- detected 0800F081F - Fixed.

    I hope this has corrected the issue.  I just checked > Settings>Power and my options are normal (so far so good).  It was saying "Update and Restart" every time I went to shut it down. 

    I am shutting my laptop down now and hopefully the next time I turn it on it will be in the same state (normal-no false updating and restarting).

    I had this same issue.  After a few days it is now resolved.  On its own.

    Why in the world would people do all the things they are reporting to try and fix this is beyond me.  It was clearly an issue on MS's end.  I've learned long ago it is better not to mess with my system when 99% of the time the issue is not mine. 

    Was it that big a deal that the definition was being reoffered?  I could see that other definitions were being installed so I was fairly confident my system was protected (well as well as it can be protected with the poor performing Windows Defender).

    Good Grief -  why keep banging on about Norton's and McAfee ... 3 systems here ... never had Norton's or McAfee anywhere near them, no trial, no freebie versions no pro ... only ever used Defender since clean install of win 8, then the 8.1 update through the update process. All updates applied as per automatic updating ... (sorry for all the "updates").

    The damn problem was from MS end .... not "users" end .....

    Because that's what he does.  Run.
