Windows Update issue - Definition Update reoffered

Welcome to Microsoft Community. I appreciate your efforts for providing detailed information on the issue. I would also like to know the KB number of the updates which are being reoffered.

This issue may arise when there are issues with the Windows update components. I suggest you, to try the following methods to fix the issue.

Method 1: Windows Update Troubleshooter

This will automatically detect and resolve the common issues with Windows updates. To run the troubleshooter, click on the following link and download the troubleshooter, by clicking on Run now.

I have run the Windows Update troubleshooter, and I have manually reset Windows Update components. The updates are listed as "successful" in Update History. The issue still persists. Definition Update 1.193.3002.0 is still being offered.

I have to report the same issue.

Definition Update 1.193.3002.0 is repeatedly offered although is just as repeatedly installed successfully. The thing is: Whenever there's a newer Definition Update available (the latest in my update log is 1.193.3281.0), it does get installed successfully, but when I check for new updates, Definition Update 1.193.3002.0 is re-offered. When I agree to install it, and then recheck for new updates, the newer version of Definition Update is again offered (right now 1.193.3281) - and the whole procedure just starts all over again: 1.193.3002.0 is offered, then the newer one, then 1.193.3002.0 again, and so forth...

Any help with resolving this frustrating issue is greatly appreciated!

PS: I have also gone through all the steps and methods suggested by Sahil Bali - without success, though.

I'm having basically the exact same issue, and it's now happening on TWO of my Windows 8.1 64-bit machines.  (I have an 8.1 RT machine and a 8.1 64-bit machine left which haven't started doing this...yet at least, though I'm at work and can't test them right now.)

I've never seen an issue like this with Windows Update.  It started on one machine two days ago, and just started on the other this morning.  I was going to try using system restore to roll back the other machine, until this morning it started happening on a second one so now I'm not sure I'll bother trying that...something seems to be wrong with Windows Update itself (or the updates being offered, or Defender, or SOMETHING).

I've tried that Windows Update troubleshooter on both PCs.  On both of them it claimed it did something, but didn't fix or change the issue at all. 

Multiple times I've had multiple Windows Defender updates show up simultaneously-like I assume whenever there's a new one it shows up, but it also displays one of these old ones.  I've NEVER seen more than one entry at a time for Defender updates since I first started using it (Security Essentials at the time) back when it was first made available years ago.

Defender always shows a recent time for "Definitions created on", and always shows that it's up to date, despite what Windows Update keeps offering.  (As of right now, the definitions are dated 3/20/2015 5:29am).

I seem to be cycling through at least two updates also: 

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.193.3002.0)

 which is 272KB, and then:

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.193.3288.0)

which is 289 KB.

I'm cycling through at least two updates on both machines, although I don't have the other handy to check if I'm getting the same numbers on both.

At any rate, I'm sort of worried given how critical Windows Update is (and malware definitions for that matter), and I've never seen anything like this...

Hi All,  seeing something similar, if slightly different, on a machine without this definition yet installed.  But think similar enough to add to this thread.  If it's a bit too different will post up separately.

Has definitions on either side numerically 1.193.3140.0 from 19th March and 1.193.3288.0 from today (20th), but definition 1.193.3002.0 also offered today.  Never been offered multiple Defender definitions before.

Also noted it is dated 18th March, which makes it out of numerical order with definition from 19th and 20th.  Does seem unusual, so not installed yet.  Thinking best to hold off and wait for further advice.

*Update - actually, not out of numerical order.  1.193.3002.0 (being reoffered and dated 18th), is before 1.193.3140.0 (19th), but after the other definition on 18th was 1.193.2950.0. So that's OK at least. 

But still why is it being offered when a later definition has been released?  That hasn't happened before.*
