Split from this thread.

Hello,

I see a C:\Windows\System32\catroot and wondered if this is about WU as well, sicne you had me rename catroot2 near the start of this thread?

I am now receving "Error 1" when installing "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5, 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 7, Vista, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 x64 (KB3037581)"

Any ideas?

The CD/DVD drive seems to read now.  I guess after it installed the device driver it needed to be rebooted again.

The issue I was having with IE not being able to download anything has been fixed by "Farbar Recovery Scan Tool" -

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/

I have uploaded Addition.txt, FRST.txt, and shortcut.txt - the report files of what FRST found and corrected, to my onedrive.  Link is:

    Very good.

Do you think running the System File Checker (SFC) tool and/or the System Update Readiness Tool at Gerry's request on 12 May resolved the problem?

I will check the dates - but it would have been nice if you would have mentioned that you wanted the dates when you Asked me to see if the KB* installed.  Seems like I have to do almost the same thing again.

In the mean time - I have looked at the first 2 pages of this thread and had some questions - they are below.  When replying - please denote what  number / letter it is from.  Thank you.

This is the list of unanswered questions.

    1. I see a "C:\Windows\System32\catroot" and wondered if this is about WU as well
    2. Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your  OneDrive and post a link here. To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.
    3. Try the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool

       http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=30135

       http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2012/10/12/10359320.aspx

    1. Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.
    2. [Problem Devices]

Device PNP Device ID Error Code

hp DVD RW AD-7250H5            IDE\CDROMHP_DVD_RW_AD-7250H5_____________________1HNK____\4&74D317D&0&0.1.0              Failure using the VxD loader.

G:\        WPDBUSENUMROOT\UMB\2&37C186B&1&STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_GENERIC-&PROD_MULTI-CARD&REV_1.00#20071114173400000&0#  Failure using the VxD loader.

Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter               ROOT\*TEREDO\0000              This device cannot start.

** I noticed that the airholes on the computer case were nearly blocked with dust - that has been cleaned and taken care of.  I still can not access the DVD drive (G: ?)

    1. I do not use EasyCleaner and jv16 powertools x any more.  They are still installed however.
    2. How often should I run "chkdsk c: /r"?
    3. Same but for "sfc /scannow"
    4. Have emptied the Onedrive contents and emptied the recycle bin.

    A) Have uninstalled "hp DVD RW AD-7250HD" and "G:" using Device Manager.  going to reboot and shortly see what happens.

G: is accessable after I cold booted the computer.

** The "hp DVD RW AD-7250HD" does not work.  When I view the Device details says:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

**I did a google search for "AD-7250HD" and could not find a driver on hp.com ......
