Since my "much earlier" post in this thread may have gotten lossed in the shuffle, I would just like to say again that in my case I got no Genuine Advantage error. I post this so that it will be highlighted that perhaps it isn't only a GA problem.
The installation of the patch went well as far as I could see.
I turned off my machine after the patch had been installed. When I returned and turned my machine on, I got a STOP screen. The STOP screen stayed on the screen only a split second until it got to the screen where it asked me if I wanted to do a Startup Repair
or Normal Startup. I chose the Startup Repair.
After this was successful, I hid the patch and have not had any problems since.
I have not ever had a STOP screen since I got the machine several years ago. I have Manual Updates but always will install the update unless I get prior warning about a patch.
My machine is a Toshiba Satellite U845. Windows 7 (SP1).
