How To Remove Windows 10 Upgrade from Windows Update

add and remove programs  then select installed updates

type this in search KB3035583

uninstall it then go the windows update settings un check recommended updates so it don't keep installing it

you will receive important updates . Recommended up dates will now then appear in optional listing updates

This is to remove the win 10 upgrade icon notification it was to blocking win 7 updates. this is what I have done

thanks! but I pasted KB3035583 into search and it's not installed.  I had uninstalled that one along with KB2990214 a while back.

I've now unchecked Recommended Updates and reran Check for Updates and found that KB30355833 is now in Optional and Windows 10 isn't listed at all. 

But when I start Windows Update, it immediately starts downloading Windows 10, so I cancel it.

Any other thoughts?

I moved this from the Windows 10 section to the Windows 7 section in hopes that someone here is able to help  :-) .  This is probably where it belongs anyway.

Kb2990214 is legitimate and it should be installed.

I have advised my clients to do what I have dreaded doing for years -- turn off Automatic Windows Update. 

The problem is compounded by an incessant drive by Microsoft to install Windows 10 on your computer with out your permission.  They keep re-installing KB3035583 (that is the enabler) on your computer, even if you uninstall it.  The result is the huge download and then constant nags without an apparent way to say no.

So I have advised my clients to shut down WU.  Once a month on the 2nd Tuesday, they will get an email from me advising to turn on WU and then to reject specific updates like KB3035583.  After updating, they will turn automatic updates off again.

If you see the Windows flag on the bottom right of your screen, chances are pretty high, your computer already has the Win10 file. Even if you do not, it may be on your computer by now anyway.  Here are instructions on how to rid yourself of it:

It is likely Win10 has already downloaded to your PC.  If you are using windows 7, and have not installed win10 and do not want it, here is a procedure that I have used many times and it works. 

1. Take Windows Update off automatic -- Never check
2. Task Manager, processes, find and end GWX.exe
3. Control Panel, Uninstall a program, View installed updates, WAIT a long time till you see the green bar completes its long trip to the right
4. Now, search for KB3035583, uninstall it
5. Restart the PC
6. Disk cleanup, do the 2nd step for System -- this takes a while
7. You should find a file there that is anywhere from 4 to 8 Gigabytes.  It is the Win10 downloaded file. Put a check mark on that item.
8. OK, Delete Files
9. Restart
10. The startup will take a long time while it finishes cleanup

I have just  decided to check this Windows 7 forum hoping to find the answer to my question, which is the same as many others - how to get rid of Windows 10 wanting to install everytime Windows Update updates automatically.  I am just afraid of changing anything on my computer now as  I am a senior and just do not understand all of the teckkie talk which I have read.  I would only make things worse if I try to do something that I don't understand.

There should be an easy way to do this as Microsoft has figured out an easy way to put it on my computer.

I have decided that I like Windows 7 just the way it is and I am used to.  Why does Microsoft think I need to get into the 21 century?  All the ads on TV saying this is the way it will be in the future.

If something is not broke why say we should fix it?

Everyday since 7/29/15 there is a message on Windows Update that Windows 10 has failed to install - well I won't let it install - that is what I want to get rid of.

Please help me do this.  Thank you.
