Windows 8.1 update fails.

Since the last "Patch Tuesday" on June 9, none of the important and other available updates will install. This is my last attempt to find a solution to the issue. I tried everything: troubleshooting, chat with MS Support for two(!) hours, googling all sorts of forums. All tis with no results. Remarkably, even MS chat from Answer Desk was unable to help. I cannot believe it that there is no help/support from MS available. That, if it is true, is very sad to say the least. I am sure that there is somebody at MS who could help/support to get the issue resolved but where is he or she??? I have been working on the issue at least 3 hours a day since June 9!!

The PC runs perfectly on the other hand. The errors that appear when looking into the details in the update history are the following ones:

  1. 800F0922
  2. 80071A91

both appear always,

  1. 80246010
  2. 80240054

both appear only a couple of times but the 2 above.

There is NO clear explanation for these errors or where the source may lie. This is in a way ridiculous. Why show them when no solution is offered at all?

Is there anyone at MS who can help??? If not, I am forced to reinstall Windows 8 from the purchased DVD and go then through the whole reinstallation and update process.

    Log Name:      System

    Source:        Ntfs

    Date:          13/07/2015 22:04:05

    Event ID:      137

    Level:         Error

    Description:

The default transaction resource manager on volume C: encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

I do not think it has worked. You should format the disk and do a clean install.

Here are the files on OneDrive.

    http://1drv.ms/1I0D2ja

Please note, they are much smaller now. What I do not understand is that some files are still the same on the PC as before the reinstallation, though I did not use the Upgrade choice. The Custom choice also said that the settings and some files will not be changed. I think some of the stuff of before the reinstallation is on the PC but cannot be accessed.

I also think that my suggestion to delete the partitions would help to clean install W 8 and then go from there as painful this might be.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. To access your System Information file select the keyboard shortcut Win+R, type msinfo32 and press the ENTERkey. Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.

Please upload and share with everyone fresh copies of your System and Application logs (two files) from your Event Viewer to your One Drive and post a link here. You can remove the earlier copies of the logs from your OneDrive.

To access the System log select the keyboard shortcut Win+R, type eventvwr.msc and press the ENTER key. From the list in the left side of the window select Windows Logs and System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

    Thanks Gerry,

I took the plunge and installed W 8 from the DVD. The installation ran fine but the first time I got into the system, the display driver had difficulties. I downloaded the latest, installed it, and that solved it.

However, the Windows Update is still not working. When it checks for updates, it says the update needs to be installed. Doing this closes the window, and then coming back with the infamous 800F0922 error.

Tried to fix it. It says it was fixed but the update still does not work. I also went to PC settings where it asks to trust the PC, went through this, no help at all. It still demands to trust the PC.

I never had such a mess on hand! I also ran sfc as admin.: Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

The paragraph right below is in strikethrough because I think I have the solution. Look beyond.

I am thinking of redoing the installation. But before I am doing it I think of formatting the whole hard disk, and then install W 8 again from scratch. That way I can be sure that everything is clean and installed, including Windows Update. I'd like your opinion.

I will do a new inst. Within "custom" choosing drive, and delete the partitions. Windows 8 will install then correctly. The drive is formatted anyway.

I did a reinstallation on my laptop more than 3 weeks ago. No such problems occurred with that installation (no formatting).

Note: I will be very busy the next two days, so I maybe a bit slow replying.

    1) What indicates a file corruption on C: drive going beyond Windows Update? I am asking this because, the system otherwise runs well, all application are working normally.

The inability to run System File Checker and the results revealed in the DISM log. As I said the next stage is to reinstall Windows.

    2) Why not installing those 4 programs? Is there a issue with each one of them?

This is a symptom of a damaged system.
