KB3038314 Fails to Install get the error 80092004.

Believe me, I tried them as they popped up in this thread.  I had pages of failed KB3038314 installs before I reinstalled windows again. They did not work for me. Thank you for supplying a possible fix for some though. As reported across the net, it will install on some systems and won't on others.

I still think this runs deeper than KB3038314, as I am down to that update as the only available update. But then I run disk cleanup on my windows drive then select "clean up system files" and select windows update cleanup. After that is done KB3021952 reappears and installs successfully again.

I'm sorry but cleaning out the windows update files should not make an update reappear and install again over and over. This points to an issue that has obviously been around well before KB3038314 as KB3021952 was released 2/10/15. So that means that for over two months a Cumulative Security Update has been falsely saying it is installing on peoples computers. There is no way that this is actually even installed if it can be "removed" by deleting old windows update files from a folder.

And not only that, I went as far as disabling WU and renaming C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, then re-enabling WU. Then I used a very useful compare utility on the two folders.  I found this C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old\SelfUpdate\Handler\WuSetupV.exe and many other extras, but this particular file is associated with a virus and is not present after WU resets the SoftwareDistribution folder. But again, after all that it shows only KB308314, and then after windows update cleanup KB3021952 shows up again and installs "successfully". Something is very wrong here.

The failure of KB3038314 in WU is a download issue from reading logs as the 35 other updates are skype and language files and are hidden. And also the standalone KB3038314 while it will download fine, it will also fail to install.

Basically the further down the rabbit hole I go, the more I start to wonder about the integrity and security of my OS.

Why does microsoft doesnt fix this problem, when so manny people has it?

This is what I did:

1. Uninstall IE11
2. Reboot
3. Checked and kb3038314 was not installed (if it was it may need to uninstall it - wusa /uninstall /kb:3038314)
4. Disconnect computer from the network and install IE11 from standalone installer
5. Reboot
6. Connect computer back to network
7. Scan for new updates in Windows Update
8. Install KB3038314 - success!
9. Reboot
10. Scan for new updates in Windows Update and install any remaining updates

We are deploying 50+ new computers this week and need the network during the deployment process, which includes the IE11 install so we still need the update fixed.

I FINALLY GOT IT.

I have been working a long time with virtual machines and snapshots trying to go back and foward to figure out how to get this update install correctly and i finaly found a 100% working solution.

The problem seems to be that the installed version of ie11 through the windows update system is already containing the KB3038314 but for an unknown reason, windows update keeps trying to install it as it is already there. 

So the solution is to first install a previous version of ie11 and let windows update patch it to the last version that is the KB3038314.

I made it in 10 easy steps, you should be able to make it like a pro.

1- Get a fresh windows 7 x64 install from SP1 dvd.  (i have two parrallel installation in vms and this problem seems to only affect 64 bits version of windows 7 sp1 cd.)

2- Right after installation, install the following  6 prerequises from theses files

Be sure you have downloaded and installed 6 files. 

3- Download the offline ie11 installation package.

4- Disconnect your internet connexion to prevent downloading last updates during installation

5- Run the ie11 installer

6- Going to the about tab of ie11, you should have update version KB2841134 installed

7- go to the windows update pannel, scan for new updates and install them. you will will notice that the KB3038314 and after a little while, you will have this update succeded

8- Reboot when asked

9- You now have ie11 with last update as the about tab shows and windows update not failing anymore that annoying update.

10- Give me an update to know if everyone is now happy with that fix.

Please note that i haven tested from a system already showing the problem to manually uninstall ie11 and going through thoses steps to fix the problem. my solution have only been tested on a fresh windows install with no updates already installed.

I have Windows 7 with SP1 and all the updates and programs I need so far. I do not want to do another clean install and start all over again.

To do this with established Windows 7 operating system installed, should I uninstall Internet Explorer 11 in the "Programs and Features" in Control panel and click on "view installed updates", it shows there as Internet Explorer 11. If I uninstall that will it also uninstall any other updates for Internet Explorer 11?

It's impossible to use the standalone installer of Internet Explorer 11 without Internet connection, in the italian version at least.

it is not possible to download the offline installer and all needed prerequised in italian?

Here are my tests :

• uninstalled IE11
• installed KB3038314 for IE8 : OK
• installed IE11
• tried to install KB3038314 for IE via WU (download failed at 11%)

Notice : KB3038314 for IE8 disappeared !

• tried to install manuelly KB3038314 : failed.

I made the same supposition. Thus, if the fresh installed IE11 contains already KB3038314, we can consider that IE11 is secure and simply hide KB3038314 ?

you could simply hide the KB3038314 but i wonder if that bug will not cause further bug when the next release will come.
