KB3038314 Fails to Install get the error 80092004.

KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install.  This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11.  I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail.  The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday).  Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?  After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error.  I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

    hi all

     I have just been on to level 2 support and they just remotely went on to my CPU to solve the problem we are all having with this update kb3038314 x 64 x86 level to support just went onto my CPU and updated it remotely and hid the update in windows update he said keep it like that and that update wont be offered again so if that helps anyone get on to level 1 support report the problem and then they will refer you to level 2 support and they will fix the problem hope this helps  those annoyed people kind regards Dave.

    Really, hide the update?    That is not a solution!

    For those of you that can't find the IE8 install, If I scroll to the bottom, it is one whole page up. You can also sort by name and it will be the first cumulative update. I included the details for both KB3038314 in my previous post.

    I also tried to uninstall IE11 and reinstall but it didn't help, I had downloaded both IE11 and the KB3038314 redistributable packages, but the KB will not install even right after IE11 install. Also, before I even uninstalled, I tried to find the KB3038314 to uninstall it but it can not be found in the updates available to uninstall. So I just uninstalled IE11 like I said above.

    So if you read the update link this is for Vista SP 2, IE9 which is non of the machines listed in this post.  I found this thread by doing a clean install of 7 64bit as well.

    1.  hide it
    2. For me 2 more updates showed up after that, install them
    3. leave it hidden, I am sure in the following days it will be removed as a required update for win 7 machines when it is not.

    If you download the update manually be sure you are getting the correct version (i,.e. the 64 bit version) otherwise you will get the "not applicable to this machine" error. However, it won't matter because the correct one does not work either.
