KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install.  This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11.  I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail.  The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday).  Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?  After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error.  I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

I've been using Chrome for years, but it was driving nuts that this KB3038314 wouldn't go way or install. So I thought it might help others that were still having the same problem.

I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro on April 17/2015 and same the error occurred with KB3038314. And Finally today after trying everything on this forum, I uninstalled Internet Explorer 11 and restarted with Internet Explorer 8. I then checked Windows Update for new updates and there were none. I then reinstalled Internet Explorer 11 and did a restart. I then checked for new updates again, and 3 new ones appeared:

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3021952)

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2976627)

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3032359).

So I installed those and checked for updates again and there were no more to be found. The KB3038314 update never reappeared again and everything is now up to date.

I think you found solution. I did similar steps and no more issue

    1. Uninstall Internet Explorer 11 (followed by restart)
    2. Uncheck ALL important updates (they will be related to IE 8, IE 9 and IE 10). In my case 3 of them and Install again Internet Explorer 11 from OPTIONAL updates. (Restart)
    3. Start installation for important updates. At this stage I had 3 of them as in point 2 but after installation has been started after about a minute green message came that those updates are not needed.
    4. No restart just recheck updates and I got 3 important updates for IE 11 and after I installed them no more issue with KB3038314.

I think MS technicians should be shamed ;-)

I cannot help but think that MS have stopped distributing  KB3038314 as a solution. This could be the reason that your system could not find it.

I don't think so. I had this presented a few minutes ago and than did the stuff described by nathanrychard and problem is gone (see my reply to his post). So I rather think it is the solution.

    Same here.

This bug also creates a bug for me in all Browsers (also Firefox, Chrome, Opera and IE).

Some Javascript on SSL/TLS Pages do not work anymore.
