KB3038314 Fails to Install get the error 80092004.

KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install.  This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11.  I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail.  The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday).  Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?  After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error.  I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

    Mine didn't either, then Unhide it. I may have rebooted at some point. But the gist is that the update was holding up other updates. Probably one that then allowed Windows Update to accurately not identify the culprit as a necessary update. Try a few times. My issue is resolved, and this was a fresh install today like every one else here. But I didn't make any registry changes or run any software or scripts.

    I used Win8 (as well as 8.1) for sometime in my desktop, but my wife didn't get used to it. She complained a lot about the new interface and I myself didn't like it either.

    After sometime I downgraded to Win7 and I will only upgrade to Win10 based on users feedback after it is released. After all, Win10 upgrade will be free, so I can wait a little bit. At first glance, Win10 interface seems to be great.

    There is another Windows Update that you all should be paying attention to.   KB3035583.  Take a look at this thread:

    A SOLUTION

    I had this same issue today. I solved it by:

    1. Hide the Update causing the problem
    2. Check for Updates
    3. Install updates that were previously not available
    4. Restore Hidden Updates
    5. Check for Updates
    6. Install this Update but it will Fail with the same Error
    7. Hide this Update
    8. Check for Updates
    9. Install updates that were previously not available
    10. Restore Hidden Updates
    11. Check for Updates

    The Updates that failed end up not being necessary I assume. They end up going away. But you yoou end up with a clean updated computer with no persisting Hidden Update.

    This did not work. Followed the steps to step 8 and no further updates were found, un-hid KB3038314 and tried to instal with exactly the same failure as original time.
