KB3038314 Fails to Install get the error 80092004.

KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install.  This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11.  I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail.  The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday).  Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?  After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error.  I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

    I ran into this issue as well. I went to the download center and manually pulled the update down. When I attempted to install it, it returned a message stating that it was not applicable to my system so apparently this update is not needed even thought Windows Update thinks it is.

    You probably downloaded the wrong flavor. This update has a download for x86, x64 and also a separate one for Server 2k8.

    Doesn't matter though ... still wont install, even with the correct download.

    We have had numerous issues with the update in our organization and have flagged it for removal until Microsoft fixes the issues it is causing with some of our enterprise applications.   Be careful if running enterprise applications based on ASP after installing this patch.

    A SOLUTION

    I had this same issue today. I solved it by:

    1. Hide the Update causing the problem
    2. Check for Updates
    3. Install updates that were previously not available
    4. Restore Hidden Updates
    5. Check for Updates
    6. Install this Update but it will Fail with the same Error
    7. Hide this Update
    8. Check for Updates
    9. Install updates that were previously not available
    10. Restore Hidden Updates
    11. Check for Updates

    The Updates that failed end up not being necessary I assume. They end up going away. But you yoou end up with a clean updated computer with no persisting Hidden Update.

    Same here. Fresh install of Windows 7 Pro. No third party software installed, no firewall enabled, no anti virus software. Absolutely clean install.

    Spent hours running through all Windows Update fixes. No luck. Hide update and two more show up. Is this the answer? Ignore botched code and get good code?

    Make sure you are downloading the x64 if you need it.  If it doesn't say x64 then you have the 32 bit and it'll say that when installing on a 64 bit system.
