KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install. This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11. I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail. The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday). Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution? After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error. I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I cannot help but think that MS have stopped distributing KB3038314 as a solution. This could be the reason that your system could not find it.
I don't think so. I had this presented a few minutes ago and than did the stuff described by nathanrychard and problem is gone (see my reply to his post). So I rather think it is the solution.
I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro on April 17/2015 and same the error occurred with KB3038314. And Finally today after trying everything on this forum, I uninstalled Internet Explorer 11 and restarted with Internet Explorer 8. I then checked Windows Update for new updates and there were none. I then reinstalled Internet Explorer 11 and did a restart. I then checked for new updates again, and 3 new ones appeared:
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3021952)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2976627)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3032359).
So I installed those and checked for updates again and there were no more to be found. The KB3038314 update never reappeared again and everything is now up to date.
I think you found solution. I did similar steps and no more issue
I think MS technicians should be shamed ;-)
I've been using Chrome for years, but it was driving nuts that this KB3038314 wouldn't go way or install. So I thought it might help others that were still having the same problem.
