KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install.  This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11.  I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail.  The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday).  Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?  After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error.  I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

I also have a fresh (generic) install of Windows 7 Pro (64 bit on a Lenovo E73z).

This is the only update that reports itself as failed yet IE 11 appears to report that this update has installed (as earlier reported).  But Control Panel/Installed updates does not appear to list this update. Note that this machine has no antivirus (as yet) and no applications installed.

Microsoft seems to have abandoned any pretence of trying to resolve the issue.  I suspect the update is installed, but failing to finish off properly.

And I have tried some of the suggestions above

Hiding/unhiding found two more updates, but fails this update.

First Microsoft Fixit did not find problems - no help

Second Microsoft Fixit (KB971058), ran for ages, reported update error 080070057 not fixed, but 'fixed' other things.

KB3038314 downloaded to 11% then failed.

Manual install got to around 30%, stalled for a while, then failed.

I had high hopes for the Nathanrychard solution but it didn't work for me.

Windows 2008 R2 system with symptoms as described above. Uninstalled IE11. Rebooted. Installed IE11. Rebooted (forced). Scanned for patches. It found 2: KB3021952 and KB3038314 (uh, oh). Selected both, Install succeeded for the first but again fails with code 80092004 on KB3038314.

Guess I'll just ignore it for now. Hopefully they'll get it sorted.
