KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install.  This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11.  I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail.  The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday).  Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?  After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error.  I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

I have tried to resolve this issue, but if you do a search through your installed updates - the same numbered one occurs as an update to IE 8, but if you uninstall the patch for IE 8 - this patch still fails and will not install.

Oh yes, I found that before as well, and I mentioned that also in one of my last posts, but I have not deleted that update for Internet Explorer 8, I have left it as it was, installed, it wants to install again for Internet Explorer 11 some reason, I do not know why?????????

Same problem here. It would be nice to have some type of response from MS

Someone from MS did respond on a different thread about this same issue. However, the solution recommended is the same one found elsewhere online. Some have had success using these recommendations; some have not.

After nearly a week, and many hours trying to get this update to install, I found the update already installed.

Hopefully, they are working on a solution and will share it soon.

I hid the update KB3038314 then I was able to download two more updates and install them ok. There were no other updates available to me after the install of the 2 new updates so I unhide the update KB3038314 and tried again to download and install it, but no good again, it failed. I did try to download the updated manually from the Microsoft website and I had it saved from before in my downloads folder. I tried to install that too but no good either. I de-activated my anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware, protection, etc. and still no good, as sometimes anti-virus type software can interfere with updates from Microsoft. Although I have only experienced and encountered trouble with the Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 in the past, not so much other updates from Microsoft. I am leaving KB3038314 hidden for now until new updates are available, then I will try it again.

P.S. What are the other solutions that were recommended or recommendations as suggested in your quote?
