KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install.  This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11.  I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail.  The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday).  Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?  After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error.  I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Same issue.  Fresh install of Windows 7 Enterprise x64 and this update fails with same error code 80092004 .

On my existing 2008 R2 installations KB3038314 installs successfully.  After that update the default search provider list is cleared and now shows as Bing.  I am now unable to ad another default search provider.  I do not get an error code but if I did I think it would say "Microsoft Fails at Ethics"

At first I wasn't going to post, 'same here fresh install', but Same here, fresh install.  Win7 Enterprise amd64.  Ironic that I was wiping and reinstalling because of an update failure.  That update failure broke office.

    Hi David,

do you have any news on the problem and are you still in contact with the devs? It would be very nice to have an ETA when they fix it. Many Windows users with that particular problem don't see this thread and are left with an unknown error.

    Thank you!
