Curious...when installing IE 11, did you skip IE 9 and 10? Because that is how I did it. And still WU says no new updates available, and no errors.
Yes, I went from IE8 directly to IE11:
- Win7 Ultimate x64 with SP1
- All updates except IE11
- IE11
Took some time, maybe 20 minutes, then KB3038314 popped up again as available.
(But it's definitely installed - as stated by other users, IE11 shows it as installed)
So... there must be some difference between your installation and mine.
Was your Win7 DVD with or without SP1 ?
(I'm asking because I noticed some strange differences between my two machines. I've built them from identical parts from the same shipping. Everything is identical, except the first machine was installed with Win7 Ult x64 without SP1, but installed SP1 manually right after setup was completed. On the 2nd machine I installed Win7 Ult x64 with SP1. Several setting were different, including energy settings and some others.)
Maybe this is the difference and the reason your workaround works for you but not for me?
I installed via DVD Win7 Pro x64 with SP1
