I checked the windows update log after installing IE11. There are indeed additional packages downloaded (15 in total). But KB3038314 is not part of them. Maybe it is just not listed. Did you install KB3038314 for IE8 at the beginning of the update marathon?
KB3038314 Fails to Install get the error 80092004.
KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install. This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11. I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail. The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday). Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution? After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error. I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

2015-04-28T11:03:36+00:00 No, I just tested the IE updates. Maybe thats why it was working for you. To be clear, you were never offered KB3038314 for IE11?
No, I think it installed automatically when installing IE11. And also, I skipped installing IE9 and 10, and went straight from IE8 to IE11.

2015-04-28T10:46:28+00:00 This was tested on fresh win 7 installation.
The first update check offers KB3038314 for IE8 and the IE11 installer. As you suggested I hid the IE11 and installed all other updates including KB3038314 for IE8. After restart and another update check, IE9 and IE10 were offered. I hid them as well while unhiding IE11. Installed IE11. After restart, two IE11 updates were offered (KB3021952 and KB3038314 for IE11). Trying to install KB3038314 for IE11 gives me the usual error.
Before restoring IE11, was Windows completely up to date?
