The fault that caused this error for a short period in 2015 was corrected. Users now having trouble using the photo email feature are facing a different problem. The most likely reason is that the Microsoft Account being used has been migrated to the Outlook Mail platform; users will often see an error message including error code 0x8007007A.
Users seeing this error code may not be able to send any messages at all until the offending message has been removed from the outbox (below the account folders in the folder pane). This bug appears to have been fixed. Once the error has been cleared, it should now be possible to send photo email again. The 'slideshow' view may not work at OneDrive, but the photos can be viewed and downloaded.
In the past two days, a number of users have complained that the photo email feature is no longer working. After creating a photo email and clicking send, the process starts and then stalls.
At this stage, the following is recorded in the program log:

To clear the error, the user must:
1. Disconnect from the Internet (e.g. switch off Wi-Fi or unplug the Ethernet cable).
This will stop the program from trying to send.
2. Remove the message from the outbox (below the account folders in the folder pane).
3. Click Stop in the send/receive progress window.
An error message with code 0x80004004 (ABORT) is displayed.
4. Close the progress window.
Instead of using the photo email feature, users could:
A. Start a new email message from within Windows Live Mail (Ctrl-N), then use either
Attach files to send images as attachments to the message, or
Insert > Single photo to embed images into the message and apply some formatting.
The images will still be sent as attachments, but they will usually be visible to the recipient
in the body of the message.
B. Upload the images to OneDrive, then use the sharing options there to send a link to addressees by email.
Will support staff please confirm this fault and inform users about when they may expect the broken feature to be mended?

PS A number of users have posted solutions involving forcefully closing down Windows Live Mail, e.g. by using Task Manager to end the wlmail.exe process or by re-starting the computer. These methods can't be recommended except in the last resort, because Windows Live Mail often conducts internal housekeeping after the program interface has disappeared. If this process is interrupted, damage to the program's databases may result.
The program will normally stop trying to send the message soon after the Internet
connection has been broken; clicking once on Working online on the status bar may also speed up the release of the program's handle on the unsendable message so it can be removed from the outbox.

Firedog - does your solution imply that the Windows Live Mail photo email feature is permanently removed and not supported anymore, or is Microsoft currently working to fix it? If so, when will the service be up and running again?
I go into my picture folder, I click on a number of pictures to send .. send to comes up . I click send to mail recipient.. The pictures attach to the windows live mail ..

OK, that's where you're going wrong
This is the way I normal would do it ... When I started with the problem this is what I did .
Now I am not doing it this way since it will not work ....
I am now sending as you outlined in your comments..
No problem this way and as you said it will not go through One Drive ...
Microsoft needs to fix the problem before going back to the way I was doing it ...
I have not tried it today so far , think I will leave it for a few days or so before trying again ..
I think what happened her between us was we misunderstood what each other was trying to say .
I think we both understand now ...
Others will have to either wait till Microsoft fixes the problem or send as you outlined in you comments ..
I too have the same problem as gooblah. But, I am not trying to send any more picture emails. Just trying to get it to quit sending the one it has been stuck on for days!!! It is making it hard to get email and impossible to send email. I have deleted the offending email from my outbox and any other traces of it. It is still there!

OK, that's where you're going wrong. Clicking Send invokes the very photo email process that's broken. As I tried to point out, you can't use this function until it's been mended. Here are two choices:
1.
In order to send pictures by email, open Windows Live Mail and start a new mail message (e.g. by pressing Ctrl-N).
On the Insert tab, select Single photo. Despite its name, you can add several pictures at once.
Click on a picture to reveal the Format tab, where you can choose size, styles, borders, alignment and margins. If you come across a set of formatting options that suit you, click Set to default to save them.
Complete the message and click Send. This does not involve OneDrive, so the Publishing photos fault shouldn't crop up.
2.
Upload the pictures to OneDrive either by copying them to a folder in the OneDrive folder on your computer or by visiting the website and clicking Upload.
At the website, select the uploaded pictures and click Share. Select the appropriate sharing options either to send a message automatically (Invite ...) or to acquire a link you can email to the intended recipients.
This is the problem ..

I click send .. box comes up saying (publishing photo album)
So far still good ..
BUT...
It does not finish publishing the album.. Hours later it still is in this mode .
Normally this will take under a min to do then the sending progress bar comes up ... again 30 - 50 sec and the pictures are send ... BUT it is not getting to the sending progress bar ..
I click on stop .. nothing happens .
I try to get into windows live mail .. Can not ...
I need to reboot first , then I can get into windows live mail .. I go to the out box and see what I was trying to send was in there .... I click delete .. I go to deleted items and empty that folder ..
BUT in the bottom bar is still shows publishing photo album ... How can that be when it was stopped and the out box has been emptied ?
I reboot again ... now that bar is gone .
I start over to send even 1 picture and the same thing happens .. I need to go through the same steps as before ...
Seeing your post I thought what the hell I will try it .. I did step by step like you said and no problem BUT when trying to send even 1 picture the same thing happens ... will not go out of the publishing photo album mode ..
I have a second computer and tried send 1 picture the same way from there ... same thing happened with that ..
I have called Microsoft a few time now and have talked to a few different tec's
The last one I talked to told me he in the last few days has had a lot call about the same problem and he believes it is a problem between windows live mail and onedrive and a problem only Microsoft can fix ... he was going to put this problem in the right hands to be fixed ..
I get no error as some have reported .. some I see had a problem clearing the photo from the outbox . I have not as I point out and how I did it ...
Do not know what more I can tell you .
