PC games not in fullscreen in Windows 10

I nned help with PC Games not in fullscreen when the resolution is on 1024x768 and the Intel Control Panel does not give me an option to switch to full screen when in 1920x1080 resolution and switching the screen resolution to lower and set to scale fullscreen, launch the game and still not in full screen.

I'm tired of applying patches to games just to get to full screen mode. I guess Windows 10 never took gamers seriously.

yeah I can say that anything that would've normally used something earlier than direct x 12, I simply cannot get to scale to 100% of my laptop's monitor.

example, silent hunter 3, which is coded to run @ nothing more than 1024x768.

if I physically set the native desktop resolution to 1024x768, (full screen panel stretch; in Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 control panel) the game resolution is 25% chopped, on both left & right sides of the screen.

while there's mods to allow for higher res. I don't want to mess with mods because they break the game most of the time anyway. my workaround (not really work around) is to run the game in windowed mode, 1024x768 resolution, scale full screen panel fit.  this allows it  to stretch to about 95% of full screen. I can live with that, but most games aren't as flexible.

certainly not so for silent hunter 2, silent hunter, star trek bridge commander, etc. the litany of old pc games I have  (both digital & physical, both dos & windows) is literally huge.

even the witcher ( a game designed to run with hd resolutions) I had to copy & paste direct x 9 aspects before that game would even run ... @ all!

haven't even tried to play older games like diablo etc., because I'm afraid after all the work of installing then defragging,  you're going to run into the exact same problem. it's rather irritating to think about actually.

dropped $1000.00 on this laptop, because I wanted to play games on it. I have an xbox one & a Samsung tablet to run apps.

I don't want to mess with vm ware right now, & even if I did virtualize, I don't know if that would help or not.

please fix direct x 12 or windows 10, whatever, so it runs older games, in full screen resolution, please & thank you.

Hi! Thanks for replying. By fixing my direct x you mean downgrading it to directx 11 or 10? Will that do and how do I go about it?

This feature is really bad by Microsoft and I wish they could fix it through an upgrade/update. I really feel all the customers will be happier in the long run and more people would love to opt for windows 10 OS instead of the previous versions. The problem with my rig is that it doesn't provide drivers for windows 7 and 8.1 as it's the latest model so in that case I am stuck with Windows 10.

I too had this problem with Windows 10 on my Intel HD 4000 and I copy and pasted a solution I came across online from another thread.

I downloaded dgvoodoo. Here's a tutorial for those that just want to jump in.

For older directx games, i.e. DX1-7 and D3D 1-8, simply copy the contents of the MS folder that has the three .dll files and go up one folder directory, root zip file directory, and copy dgvoodoo setup right into the installation folder of the game you want. I like playing games from GoG, currently reliving good old (heh) memories with Westwood Studio's Nox.

Before dgvoodoo my games weren't full screen either, after dgvoodoo problem solved! Just make sure whatever compatibility settings  you may have enabled are turned off. This caused slowdown in Nox in my case, so I am not sure it is universal for all older games. I tested dgvoodoo in Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight and Battle Realms.

As for the dgvoodoo settings, they're kind of hard to explain without a picture, but by the default settings everything should run fine. However if you don't like the dgvoodoo watermark it can be disabled by going to the third tab and deselecting the bottom right corner. This is applicable for Direct X games.

tried dgvoodoo. Norton kept flagging it as a heuristic virus though so no thanks. 

After updating to the anniversary windows 10 upgrade i figured out a solution, through much trial & error.

If youre rig is integrated like mine, you first go to display properties & change font size to 100%., in windows explorer.

Next you want to open  the intel hd control panel, display, then make sure the panel fit is set to full screen. 

There should be a checkmark box for the important option, "override application setting"s. Make sure you save the changes.

Those settings allow me to run my older games in full sceen resolution. Finally. Yey me!
