PC games not in fullscreen in Windows 10

That's right, and I suspect that they never intend to fix it.

They seem to regard the enforcing of a fixed resolution which programs can't modify as a positive asset.

And with that attitude (the reverse of what all gamers have) they never will change it.

This leaves it up to us users to find and share workarounds for the system limitations.

(Or simply give up and revert to Windows 7)

Could anyone give me an example game - If I ever get the time, I'll look into a fix or way around this :-) 

I find, with GTA V running through steam (for example), I can get it running in full screen mode by doing the following:

1.) open steam

2.) click play GTA V

3.) don't click the popup window asking me if I want online or offline mode yet

4.) click the cross at the top right of steam, to minimise it to my icon tray

5.) make sure no other program windows are open (except the GTA online / offline mode option window)

6.) click online or offline mode for GTA in the window

It launches the game in full screen mode. 

The second I ALT + TAB to desktop or Alt + Enter to windowed mode, or Windows key + TAB - it creates a sort of 'virtual desktop' which knocks the game out of exclusive full screen mode. It won't allow me to run the game in exclusive full screen mode again unless I repeat the above.

I notice considerable differences in performance when running in exclusive full screen mode. The minute I use one of the above commands to look at another program, my FPS won't be as stable in the game again until I've repeated the steps above. 

Hope this helps someone!! Any example games would be appreciated as I'm good at figuring little ways around Windows 10 (but by no means anywhere near the best person to be doing this - I just want to assist!) :D

Hope this helps someone else. I was also having the problem with not being able to play games in fullscreen in Windows 10. This what I did:

If you have not updated your Display Adapters go to Device Manager first - look for Display adapter and click on the drop down  box and it should show you what to do next.

Open display settings

Change the size of text - apps -  other items to 125%

Click Advanced Display Settings - change to 1440 x 900

Very important. On all your games that have a fullscreen option make sure that this option is TURNED OFF .

Turn this option on, ONLY when you are actually playing the game. Somehow the fullscreen option will not work when another game is using it and it doesn't even matter if the first game is closed.

Hope someone can use this.

UPDATE

I shut down my  computer last night and lost all previous settings.

I set size back to 125% and Display setting to 1440 x 900 and then  restarted (not shutdown) my computer and was able to play games in fullscreen again after I turned the fullscreen option on, in the game.

In response to the following post, I have a Dell S2340M monitor and it's not getting any bars around it, the game is covering the entire screen. Hope you find a solution.
