Windows update KB3004394  causes the following issues on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate system:

All MMC functions (Event Viewer, etc.) now require Administrator action, although in an Administrator account.

Windows Defender service will not start

The Windows Defender Service Terminated with the following error

%%-2147023113

Removing it  returns the system to normal.

Anyone else experience this?

I have the same issue on Windows 7 Professional 32bit.. It believe was also causing my xbox360 Media Center Extender to keep disconnecting after just a minute or two.

I've removed KB3004394 and I am now able to access Event Viewer and other items without it complaining about mmc.exe being from an unknown publisher, and the MCE appears to be working normally now as well.

Thanks for this post Doubletwist. I was having WMC extender issues too until I removed this update:

I have Windows 7 64 bit and I am having the same issue.  I cannot install any updates after KB3004394.  I have to uninstall it and reboot to finish installing updates.  I would get error code 800706F7 which I could find no information about.

I didn't notice any other issues, but this is a new computer and always start out configuration with Windows updates.  Took me too long to figure it out.
