Google Hangout for Windows Phone.

Hello Microsoft,

Recently I wrote to Google to provide Hangout app for Windows Phone. In reply they said that they are willing to provide Google Apps if device manufacturer are ready to collaborate with them in development process. Following text is copy of two paragraphs of their reply.

Unfortunately, when developing an app for a third party device we need the collaboration of the manufacturer.

Like in the case of Mac we worked side by side, also with Ubuntu and other Debian based Linux distributions.

Together we achieved the apps their users enjoy now, as well once the app is developed it needs to follow

the manufacturer's store approval like any other app developed for them. As you can see by visiting

In the case of Microsoft we are more than willing to develop the app, we would love to support that market

share which is vast increase potential customers to use their mobile devices.

With Microsoft we've achieved the use of hangouts through their Desktop environments so far. But, we need

you as their mobile customer to present the need of the use of Google Apps in their mobile phone's so they

can support the development of mobile apps on their devices. We want to serve you in whatever device you

choose to have, but this can only be accomplished through the device users to convince the device

manufacturer to collaborate to develop an app from us.

I would love to see Google apps on my windows phones. Could you please communicate with Google, to bring Hangout and other apps to Windows Phone.

    they don't need any official statement. what would it be? "Google is lying?" they wouldn't do it. but it is the truth. what google has said is a bunch of bull droppings. you don't need anyone from Microsoft to tell you that.

    Why does Microsoft have to say anything? It's Google's app. They can state whatever they want. Just look at the YouTube feud and replace "YouTube" with "Hangouts" if you want to see how Google really treats the WP platform.

    Quite frankly, Google's response that was posted in the opening post is bs. They don't need Microsoft help to make an app. I'm sure the very talented people at Google can read MSDN documentation just as well as anyone else, plus they didn't need Microsoft's help to make a search app for WP.

    Google doesn't want to make apps for Windows. They do make a few for Windows Desktop because it would be suicide not to. Otherwise, they won't make apps other than Search for the Windows Store platform.

    Well, I guess that is true enough. What I guess I really need is an independent, reliable, and (relatively) unbiased source to tell me what is going on. I probably wouldn't believe an official statement from either company. That is just me being jaded, though.

    That being said, I'd absolutely like to to hear Microsoft's side of the story FROM MICROSOFT. Google is probably telling the truth to some extent, but perhaps they did not share the whole story. For example, perhaps they wanted to "collaborate" by having access to features of the windows phone that are protected and Microsoft doesn't trust them enough to share that information. Perhaps Google wanted access to user information that Microsoft doesn't want to allow apps to access in order to protect the privacy of their users. There are a lot of ways that Microsoft could respond that aren't "Google is lying" and that would help users make an educated decision regarding which company they want to support with their dollars and information.

    Certainly an official response would be more helpful than a forum post that simply asserts that Google is lying and attributes malicious intent with relatively little supporting information.

    Anyway, apparently I've been a bit of troll, which was not my intention. If anyone knows a more appropriate way to request information that would help me understand what is going on and whether or not Google apps on Windows Phone is a possibility for the near future, I'd appreciate it.

    Again, look up the YouTube debacle and you'll see the responses from both companies. 

    There is no technical limitation in the API. Google can do exactly what they want. However, Google is not an OEM, and does not get special consideration for privileged APIs. Not that they need them as again, everything Hangouts can do is possible on WP except taking over text messages.
