Unable to uninstall update KB2952664

My Win 7 64bit laptop recently installed update KB2952664, which sent everything to a grinding halt. Through a combination of research and spending a whole weekend uninstalling different updates I pinned down the problem to this update.

I can uninstall the update, which brings the laptop back to life, but it immediately shows up again in the installed updates panel. If I restart the laptop after uninstalling the update the problem immediately returns.

Why is the update magically reappearing and how do I remove it for good?

    I have checked the situation again and MS obviously has made a new version of that update again.

    I have release date from yesterday (10.7.2015).

    I recommend these steps:

    1. Check if the update is no hidden, if yes - then unhide it
    2. Download KB2952664 manually from Windows Update Catalog at https://catalog.update.microsoft.com

        Just enter KB2952664 in search box.

        Add correct (x86 / x64) version to basket

        Then specify download directory where basket should be downloaded

    1. Manually install the downloaded update.

    It looks like the file size is 63KB.  So this means it was not installed succesfully. The date is 12/10/2014.

    'An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled. '

    From what I understand, in order for the upgrade to Windows 10 to be done, this file must be there and must be correct.

    Sorry to hear that.

    It it not very good to hide the update - if MS will require new version of that update to upgrade to Windows 10, you will not be aware of this.

    If you really want to upgrade to Windows 10, then it will be pointless to make troubleshooting now, because if WU shows you this update with 25kb size, THIS MEANS IT WAS INSTALLED SUCCESFULLY. All binary files are correct (if not you will see bigger size that 25kb). This small piece of update is just trying to enable scheduled task \Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser. You can simply check it out if is enabled. If yes, you should be able to upgrade to Windows 10, even if the update stays there.

    So:

    Is the size in WU still 25kb?

    What error message do you get when you try to remove the update?

    I have done this numerous times. I have also done it as the Administrator. It fails and the update is not removed.

    I have tried hiding this update. But without it I cannot upgrade to windows 10.
