KB3033929 fails to install and cause a minor "infinite" loop

Hello everybody, I had the same problem, the solution is:

Reboot and press F5 or F8, then you go to "Advanced startup options" (by press F8 in my case) and then go to "System Recovery Options", after you sign in as administrator you go to "System Image Recovery" and skip the popup windows and go to find the image to recovery, here you can see the units you have: C:, D:..., you go to the system unit, in my case: C: and go to folder \Windows\WinSxS and then rename the pending.xml archive as pending2.xml and then restart.

You also can go to "Command Prompt" in "System Recovery Options" and write the following:

cd C:\Windows\WinSxS

ren pending.xml pending2.xml

exit

And then restart, Note: C or D or E depending of letter of System Unit, Note: Also can write rm pending.xml to deletethe archive.

Finally you uninstall the respective update package which causes problems.

I expected this can be a helpful for you.

For me it was KB3035131 hanging an HP workstation before CTRL ALT DEL. No dual booting, only one HD but uninstalling the patch from safe mode has sorted things.

Are you in the habit of using "Registry cleaners" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; Registry Booster; McAfee QuickClean; AVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; PCTools Optimiser; SpeedUpMyPC; PC Doctor; TuneUp Utilities; WinMaximizer; WinSweeper; Comodo System Cleaner; Advanced System Optimizer; CCleaner's Registry Cleaner component)?

1. Created March 6, 2015. That is around the time the latest version was released.
2. Created June 30, 2014 and it is the free version. I installed it so I could help a friend navigate the program over the phone to remove some adware toolbars. I have never detected or quarantined anything and I rarely use it if ever.
3. Occasionally I use CCleaner's (free version v5.03.5128, installed since August 10, 2013) reg cleaner component to remove footprints from uninstalled software.

If I were you, I would grab your Windows installation disk, restore the windows boot and try installing the update again.   Chances are that will work, and then you can re-install Grub.   I did that today, and it took me about an hour, all in.

So you're telling me I need to invest an hour of my time ($80) to fix something that already was expensive enough? As if there's not already enough reasons to switch to Linux completely, they are going to take away the one reason to not yet switch; the fact you shouldn't have to use up valuable time to fix your OS after every fart the dev lets fly...

No, this should be fixed by the guys that are paid to fix it.
