Page fault in nonpaged area and Memory management BSOD on startup

I have been getting crashes in the last month after the first program opens following startup. The error is most often PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and sometimes MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. The issue usually does not happen twice in a row. That is, when the computer restarts after crashing, it normally runs smoothly until I shut it down again.

Running memtest for several hours came up clean. chkdsk did not appear to solve anything or reveal any problems. Windows is up to date.

This custom built machine is approx 1.5 years old, problems began 1 month ago.

EDIT: Crashes just started during "normal" operation instead of simply on startup.

Please run driver verifier (DV) per the instructions in the link below.

Note: Make sure to read and remember the steps to reset DV in the event of a crash, and post a link to the newly generated crash dump here.

Thank you for your reply. I have spent the last few days following the steps above.

    • No crashes in safe mode were observed.
    • The computer DID crash in clean boot (only windows services running).
    • Microsoft safety scanner found no malware.
    • System maintenance tool found no issues.
    • System file checker tool did not find any corrupt files.

Previously I had also used MemTest86+ to check my RAM and ChkDsk for my SSD.

I also attempted adjusting my virtual memory parameters with no noticeable improvement.

Thank you for the crash information pages, I will be sure to check the parameter in the future.

    Hi PYates,

Thank you for providing detailed information regarding the issue that you are facing. The issue could occur due to corrupt system files or third party software conflicts.

Please help me with some more information:

    1. What steps have you already taken to troubleshoot the issue so far?
    2. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

    Try the methods below**:**

    Method 1:

    Step 1:

Try to boot the computer is safe mode and check if the issue persists.

Go to the link below and follow the instructions.

    Step 2:

Try to put the computer in Clean Boot state to see if there is any software conflict as clean boot helps in eliminating software conflicts.

Clean boot process will help you determine which third party program/app that is causing this issue. It could be some other application or programs, which runs on the computer at the background, leading to this issue.

Refer to the link below to perform clean boot:

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Method 2: Run the System Maintenance Troubleshooter.

Refer to the article given below.

    Open the System Maintenance troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-System-Maintenance-troubleshooter

    Method 3:

Run Microsoft Safety Scanner to make sure that the computer is free from virus/malware. Refer to the link below.

    Microsoft Safety Scanner

    Method 4:

Run the System File Checker tool using the link below. System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

I highly recommend backing up all of your important files and folders onto an external storage device before attempting any type of OS repair or upgrade.

Hope this is helpful. Please share the results of the troubleshooting you perform.
