'Battery Alert' appears before the 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.', however, ' Cooling Fan Alert' appears after 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.'

Hi,

First of all: I know that I have been having a problem with my HP Laptop Battery, and with its cooling Fan.

However, I am now wondering what detected this error below as long as it was shown even before  the notification saying 'the press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.' Thus, if the BIOS detected that there was a problem with the HP Battery storage', then this error should have been listed after 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.' was passed.

'HP Battery Alert:    The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low. For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.'

That alert lasted about 15 seconds, and then the 'press 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.' is shown.

Next: This is error below showed me::

'The system didn't detect that a cooling fan is operating correctly'

I know that BIOS detected that a problem with 'Cooling Fan' since the Alert of error was shown after passing 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.'

Any comments would be highly appreciated

    Thanks a lot,

    In the specification of my notebook model is only said:Video graphics OR Graphics Card is AMD Radeon HD 6770M (1 GB DDR5).

    So, my questions are:

    Firstly: In the specifications, they didn't clarify  which is the discrete graphics card(discrete GPU) integrated into motherboard, and which is the Intel graphics card(internal GPU) integrated into CPU?

    Secondly: as long as my notebook is equipped with a dual core Intel processor, and Intel HD6770 graphics subsystem, and 1024-MB of discrete memory. So, I am confused how much  the memory size of internal GPU integrated into CPU.

    Thirdly: I know that the manufacturer of discrete GPU integrated into motherboard is AMD. But, What is the manufacturer of internal GPU integrated into CPU?


     I know A 'graphics card' is the subsystem inside the PC that handles the video output. Can be a stand-alone card, or integrated into the CPU.

    So, my questions are:

    Firstly: Then, the desktop computers are much better than notebook computers since I noticed that almost all desktop computers have a graphics card integrated into motherboard, and another AGP slot to which an external  stand-alone graphics  card can be installed.

    So, in desktop computers, if the integrated graphics card got defective, I have another AGP slot to which I can install  a stand-alone graphics card. 

    Also, if external  graphics card was defective, then I can replace it without replacing the entire motherboard.

    However,  I noticed that  laptops/notebooks(like mine) have a a discrete  graphics card integrated into motherboard, and graphics card integrated into CPU, then if the discrete graphics card integrated to motherboard got defective, then I would need to replace the whole motherboard. If the graphics card integrated into CPU got defective, I would replace the CPU.

    Secondly: I noticed that a slight difference between desktop and notebooks.

    In desktop computers, the internal graphics card is integrated into motherboard. However,  in notebooks(like mine), the internal graphics card(called:internal GPU) is integrated into  CPU.

    In desktop computer, the external stand-alone graphics card is discrete which can be installed into the AGP slot/PCI express.

    However, in notebooks(like mine), the discrete graphics card(called discrete GPU) is integrated into motherboard.

    2- I cleaned the old thermal compound located on CPU and discrete GPU with a piece of  cloth.  You need to remove the old compound completely with either compound cleaning solution or 90% isopropyl alcohol if you can't find any cleaning solution.

    3- You don't tell me why only the old thermal is only put on the tops of CPU and GPU. It is not put on the entire tops of CPU and GPU.

    It should cover nearly the entire CPU / GPU after the heat sink is mounted on the CPU / GPU. What I do is apply 4 small dots of compound about halfway toward each corner of the CPU and one dot in the center and then mount the CPU.

    7- Why do you need me to run Speccy? I have that program installed.

    I was hoping it would show your CPU fan speed when different loads were applied. I would expect the fan to be at a slow speed (RPM) when the CPU / GPU are at or near idle and then display the fan speeds (which should increase in RPM) when the CPU is at 25%, 50%, and 75%

    Firstly: Yes, I have applied new thermal compound on the old one to let it smooth, then I remove the old thermal compound.

    Secondly: If you could see my motherboard screen shots posted before, then you definitely don't  agree with the way old thermal compound is applied(it is only on the tops and not the entire tops)(That was applied by the OEM vendor)

    Finally: You didn't comment on the screen shot of the speedfan utility. Have you seen that my fan working well or not?

    4- IF you see my mother board screen shot posted before, you can see the CPU and GPU. So, do you think GPU is the discrete Graphics. My notebook have internal Intel Graphics which is built into the CPU, and external/discrete Graphics which built into mother board. Any GPU not part of (built into the CPU) is considered discrete but it appears that it is not on its own card which can be removed and upgraded to a faster GPU.

    5-  I think the GPU located in the screen shot of my mother board is the discrete which is built-in in the system board, however, internal Intel Graphics is built-in CPU. So, if discrete GPU got defective, I would need to replace the Mother board. However, if the internal graphics got defective, then I will only need to replace the CPU. Its rare that the internal graphics go bad, but you should only have the external unit enabled and disable the internal graphics disabled in the BIOS settings.

    6- If the discrete GPU defective would requite me to replace the entire mother board, then why was it called  discrete Graphics?????  See my reply to question #4.

    7- Why do you need me to run Speccy? I have that program installed.

    Based on the screen shots you provided I see at least a 10 degree C temperature drop under the similar loading conditions.

    If if was me I would not use paint thinner to clean the CPU and heat sink / Fan. A good alternative would be 90% isopropyl alcohol using a lint free material to wipe off "All" the thermal paste and then re-apply the paste.

    Another thing you can check is to monitor the fan speed either visually or by sound, the speed should increase as the CPU load increases.

    J W Stuart,

    I really have throughly cleaned my fan and heatsink with a paint thiner. I first removed the old fan from the heatsink/metal plate, then blowed out the fan with a compressed air as well as heatsink. Then, I have cleaned the Fan, and metal plate with paint thiner, and cleaned all old thermal compound from the the tops of the CPU and GPU as shown in these screen shots below:(there is no thermal pads at all, all what is found is thermal compound, and only the old thermal compound is on the tops of CPU and GPU. The thermal compound is not on the entire tops of CPU and GPU)

    After that, on the tops of CPU,  I applied and  spread  new thermal with amount which is slightly bigger than a grain of rice but smaller than a pea. The thermal pound is silicone compund, and not silive compound.

    Next: I have put  the newly rebuilt heatsink down on top and screw down.

    Finally: I have put  my notebook back all together. When starting my notebook, the error 'The system didn't detect that a cooling fan is operating properly' no longer appears to me.

    However, when I run again the core temp, I found there is no difference in the CPU temperatures in the last while facing the error 'cooling fan is operating properly', and now.

    However, in last screen shots, the value of temperature in the fields 'core#0' and 'core#1" are highlighted with red. However, in the temperature read now, there is no highlight
