KB3035583 Installing Windows 10 using Windows Update?

Would you please tell me how to prevent the installation of KB3035583 in my computer and if it is already installed, how to remove it?  Also, are there other updates that we need to be concerned about that enable this behaviour?

KB3035583 now appears as an Important update in Windows Update and is checked which means it will be automatically installed if the user does not uncheck it.  If automatic update is set, it will install without intervention.

There are credible articles that say that Microsoft either has installed or will install changes to my computer that will enable Microsoft to use it as an advertising platform and then install Windows 10 without first obtaining an informed decision to do so.  I truly hope this is not true.

On behalf of my clients and their 162 Windows "consumer" computers, I must tell you that we do not grant Microsoft or any other vendor the right to do this.  When other Windows players do this, we regard it as malware and take great care to remove it.

Microsoft got to where it is today by selling Windows.  We have spent decades learning how to use Windows and billions of dollars buying Windows computers and Windows software.  We own these systems.  They are ours, not Microsoft's.

Windows Update has earned a huge trust.  We trust Microsoft to use Windows Update to keep our computers safe and secure.  When Patch Tuesday comes along we install all the updates that Microsoft says are "important." We assume those to be either plugging a security leak or fixing a software error.

We all hope Windows 10 will be something we will want.  We will carefully review and consult trusted advisors before we install Windows 10.  We have seen Windows 8 and rejected it.  Windows 8 is a bad product we did not choose.  

Automatically installing Windows 10 on our computers would be a severe abuse of a well-earned trust.  Changing our computers to enable them to become advertising platforms is also an abuse.

    So where in this thread are you able to find an example of me recommending that a user should you use automatic update.

    CORNELL SNIPE HUNT RESULTS

    9/3/15 (3X) - Rejects NEVER UPDATE.

    9/5/15 - Rejects AUTO UPDATE.

    10/7/15 - Recommends "Check for updates but let me decide whether to download and install," claims he has experienced "No problems" with this strategy.

    12/22/15 (4X) - Denies there is any need to remove KB3035583, again claims no problems if only the user will pay attention.

    2/5/16 (2X) – Re Windows Update procedure, “I can work around it.”   “All updates taken here and not pestered by upgrade offers.  I have simply hidden the option to upgrade and the notifications.”

    2/6/16 – NEVER UPDATE is unnecessary, and the updates banned by Canadian Tech and others here can be installed without disrupting Windows 7 or 8.

    I will amend my comments to say that you consistently claim that you can accept all updates and maintain Win7 or Win8 in working order by paying sufficient attention to hiding the ones not wanted.  As I said above (12/22/15), this amounts to boasting of your ability to live life on a window ledge, so long as you do everything just so.

    It’s amazing that you think you deserve one.  The distinction between Automatic Updates and your strategy may be important to you, but much closer to the heart of the matter is your continual deprecation of the need to put Windows Update on NEVER.  You say you accept all updates, but you make that work only by taking measures—including, if we take you at your word, researching each and every update, penetrating the screen of sketchy information and deception that Microsoft has thrown up—that are beyond the limit of what most users can or should be expected to do.  I'm not dealing here with instances of outright trickery by M$, and neither have you.

    You say that it's all just a matter of being careful and paying attention, but the truth is that you make it work only because you have the tech experience, and the even larger truth is that you have been using this discussion to strut that experience.  By pushing a strategy that is impractical and unrealistic for most users, you have done them a disservice.

    They should not await your apology.

    I have to say that I don't see much difference between never and let me choose. If the users of never check the accummulated updates regularly, it amounts to the same thing as let me choose. In both cases you are filtering out what you don't want.

    The question is whether let me choose lets some through with the possibility to filter. I haven't seen that yet. I have however seen KB3035583 unhide itself after an update that very conveniently reset the Windows Update settings when I had it on let me choose (I think).

    Check out Canadian Tech's previous posts regarding the inadequacy of the "Let me choose" option.

    The fact that M$ often "unhides" updates by reissuing them is now well known.  The latest example, I believe, is KB2952664.
