I originally posted an inquiry about the compatibility of Windows 10 to my 4D Embroidery Extra software. Thank you for responses from other sewers who were either as frustrated as I was, or had other suggestions. Yesterday, with the help of a wonderful friend, who owned the Pfaff store in Butte, MT, I upgraded to Windows 10 after downloading new hasp drivers for my 4D Emb Extra. I've now spent about four hours using 4D software, which is running well with Windows 10. I don't know if this will help anyone else, but here's what I did. On Pfaff.com, under the Software tab, I scrolled down to a category called Other Useful Software and selected Hasp Driver download. I saved and then ran that download, then made sure my 4D Emb Extra was still working and verified that I could uninstall Windows 10 if I wasn't satisfied. Then I upgraded to Windows 10. That upgrade takes a while, but the steps provided on Microsoft's site, were easy to follow. When the upgrade was complete, I inserted the hasp/dongle, and opened 4D Emb Extra. My first attempt didn't work, but I tried it again immediately and it did work. I've successfully opened it and used it multiple times since that first attempt.
compatability of Windows 10 with embroidery software, 4D Embroidery, in particular?
I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade to Windows10. The main use for this computer, is sewing/embroidery software, 4D Embroidery. Is W 10 going to run that software satisfactorily?

I have two computers one laptop Windows 8 and a Tower computer with Windows 10 my question is if I upgrade the dongle will it still work with the laptop.
The laptop is a designated embroidery sewing computer.
The tower is used for everything.

The only way to 'upgrade' the dongle is by installing a newer driver from Viking if you aren't up to date on the driver. Otherwise, there is no upgrades for the dongle. It is just a security device & doesn't have anything to do with Win10 or Win8.

2015-10-23T17:16:12+00:00 I upgraded to Windows 10 and I am using 4D Embroidery software. I haven't had any problems with 4D so far.
I am not in love with Windows 10 and have experienced a number of really annoying glitches. I recommend holding off on upgrading for a while. At some point they usually issue patches to fix the bugs people have reported. But - 4D does seem to be working without any problems.

2015-11-07T06:36:31+00:00 I just upgraded to Windows 10 today and my 4D would not work. It tried to open but it couldn't read the hasp info. I followed your directions (I almost couldn't find where to get the dongle driver upgrade) and low and behold my 4D is now up and running. I actually downloaded the hasp driver after the Windows 10 upgrade. Thanks so much for your advice. I wouldn't have upgraded to another Pfaff software. It's just too expensive and I have other software that I use more often. I still use the 4D and am very thankful for your help.
