Groove Music not finding local files

On my desktop, Groove music is not finding any of my local music files that I have in the folders I have added (mostly my existing iTunes folders).  I've tried resetting the app but still no luck.  Grabbing my OneDrive files with no problem.

Any thoughts?

My Groove Music app was working fine until earlier today.  I had it open, as well as Musixmatch Lyrics & Music Player at the same time.  When Musixmatch was updating it's catalog, suddenly the song that Groove was playing stopped and claimed it was not accessible anymore ... then, all songs were not available (all local files on HD) within the Groove Music app.  All other music applications worked fine and all of the music files played if opened individually from the File Explorer.

I tried several of the suggestions from this community feed, among other support sources (i.e.: properties/sharing of folders; resetting app; resetting where Groove looks for files; delete/reinstate music library at OS level; many troubleshooter programs, etc.) ... with no success.  Hours wasted attempting to solve what should be a simple issue fix.

What finally worked for me, is adding one single song to my OneDrive\Music folder ... and my entire Groove Music app catalog re-populated/refreshed instantly and it was fully operational again.  Normally I do not store any music on OneDrive (to reduce downloading/data usage), but, this may be a way to resolve the issue until Microsoft updates the Groove app to include an "Force Update" music catalog button within its settings section.

Hope this work-around offers a resolution for some users.

    Thanks & Cheers!

Nope - it worked for a while (several days!) then reverted to the behaviour being described here. Oh well, Windows Media Player works for me, so no really big deal, but kinda scary that Microsoft seems to have no interest in fixing whatever the problem is.

Here's what worked for me: Uninstall Groove (not easy, requires admin-level Powershell command) then go to Microsoft app store and re-install it. Apparently device came with crappy version of Groove pre-loaded.

Another tip, as revealed by scrutinising the output of the venerable Process Monitor.

If, like me, you don't use OneDrive, make sure this path exists:

    C:\Users\your_username\Music\Music Cache\OneDrive Cache

If this folder isn't there, Groove Music will completely fail to find even a single song, without any errors. Nothing gets put in there by Groove Music, but boy does it insist that it be there! Create those folders, remove/re-add your music folder and presto everything appears.

You need to create a new user who is an administrator and forget your old account. Once you do this and login set grove to find your music folder and it will work.  Make sure you have all your files and settings set with your new user profile, then you can just delete your old profile whenever you feel ready.  This did the trick for me and like you I tried everything.

I've tried everything too. This is the only thing that worked for me..and a good lead to find a solution....

This one machine here is a 32-bit (migrated from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8 Pro, to Windows 8.1 Pro and now Windows 10 Pro 32-bit)   all my other machines haven't had a problem with Groove.

Groove doesn't like something that set in my profile.  What is it?
