Age of empires II won't work via windows 10

So I was playing age of empires II other day while using windows 7 well upgraded today to windown 10 and now it won't run the start up menu starts but I click play now ... and nothing.how can I fix it

Can you restore your system back to windows 8.1 and be able to play AOE II???

You have to be kidding with your recommendations, being a Microsoft Engineer.

I tried all of your suggestions before I wised up and with a lot of difficulty finally got to talk with a Microsoft Employee in Microsoft's gaming area, who told me that The Age of Empires II is not supported by Microsoft in Windows 10.

Why do you at Microsoft keep avoiding this issue. Oh, I know, you are trying to jam Windows 10 down peoples throat!!!

Yes, but you have to go back to 8.1 within the 30 day window, otherwise, you will have to restore you system back to how it came out of the box, and reinstall all your software.

what about us who used to own a windows 7 pc but now own a windows 10 pc that they cant rollback to windows 7 because it never was windows 7 in the first place?

am i stuck with basically a 20-40$ paperweight that isnt even heavy enough to be a paperweight?
