Age of empires II won't work via windows 10

So I was playing age of empires II other day while using windows 7 well upgraded today to windown 10 and now it won't run the start up menu starts but I click play now ... and nothing.how can I fix it

    I am using the steam digital version of AOE II HD edition and am having this exact same issue. Straight answer, is the game compatible with Windows 10 or not? Getting mixed messages from every Microsoft representative I speak to, if they're not compatible what are Microsoft going to do to change it and make it compatible. I don't want new graphics etc, I like AOE II HD edition as it is and don't want to upgrade to a newer version of the game.

    AOE II - HD is availalbe on steam.

    www.steampowered.com - they have a digital version of the game that works on Windows 10.

    I am using the digital version (steam) with the same issue as the others here. On or offline, the game won't load after pressing play. This is very frustrating.

    The easiest way it's apply this patch to your installed game.

    Just follow the instructions to install the v 1.4 patch.

    Before install make sure that you are using the original game with the original disk in your disk drive.

    Works fine for age of empires 2 gold edition.

    The problem is the Safedisc copy protection on the disc is not supported in windows 10. There is a software fix available for about (iirc) $30 U.S. from a company in France, but I can't remember the name of the company or it's software, or where I saw it mentioned, and my google searches aren't worded correctly to get the right result. I'll try some more later, and if anyone else comes up with it I'd appreciate the link. When I found it, I didn't have the $30, but iirc it works for all Safedisc protected discs so you don't have to replace your whole library of legacy games
