So I was playing age of empires II other day while using windows 7 well upgraded today to windown 10 and now it won't run the start up menu starts but I click play now ... and nothing.how can I fix it

the Age of Empires Series uses a old and not supported by windows 10 type of code. If it doesn't work in compatibility mode, then try this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ\_nHjZrkzc
Edit: or buy the steam addition. Maybe if you message steam support with the dilemma and show them a picture of the disc they will give you a free copy?
It has been a year and you still have not fixed it. It tells me i need to sign in as the administer but the thing is I am!! I try running it from the CD and it will close the program after just a secend. This is your game and it will not play on you OS why?
The problem is the Safedisc copy protection on the disc is not supported in windows 10. There is a software fix available for about (iirc) $30 U.S. from a company in France, but I can't remember the name of the company or it's software, or where I saw it mentioned, and my google searches aren't worded correctly to get the right result. I'll try some more later, and if anyone else comes up with it I'd appreciate the link. When I found it, I didn't have the $30, but iirc it works for all Safedisc protected discs so you don't have to replace your whole library of legacy games
If you are past the 30 day window to go back to your previous version, the only solution is to reinstall you system back to the way it came when you acquired your computer. This is what a Microsoft Engineer told me. Sorry
Will not run on widows 10, you can download Voolby to your windows 10 and play it, I use Stream thou, you purchase AOE II HD from them for $25 and you will be able to play online again and also play solo, it works great, the graphics are terrific, and they have some knew campaign that are really fun. Hope this is helpful, I spent hours with Microsoft trying to get AOE II to work on Windows 10, and finally they admitted it would not work on 10.
