OK. I just want to clarify and confirm. Windows Media Playerwill be available with Windows 10, but Windows Media Center will not be available.... Right? ( I hope so, as I usually use the Windows Media Player on my Windows 7 PC to play my music)

1 VLC does what you want, it is free & it works in Windows 10. That will get you up & running whilst you chase the problems with Windows. Some people prefer this player to the one included with Windows anyway.
2 "media player stopped working" - What do you mean / What happened when you tried / What error messages were there / What symptoms are there?
3 "the media does even appear as an app" - Windows media center is not included in Windows 10. Only Windows media player is included in Windows 10.
4.1 If the problem is simply that you cannot find Windows media player then you can look in the right folder then double-click on the file to run Windows media player:
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
or [for 64 bit Windows]
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
4.2 and, if you want to create a shortcut to it on your desktop, right-click in a blank area of the desktop, select New, select Shortcut and put this in its properties:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:1
or [for 64 bit Windows]
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:1

2016-01-11T05:26:17+00:00 yea, I have had a problem with my Windows 8 as well, the minute I downloaded the Microsoft version o Windows 10 on my computer then my media player stopped working! This is getting really old fast can someone please help me now with why it is not working I am not paying for anything when I firs got this computer the media center worked just fine however now the media does even appear as an app or show up anywhere on the desk top> I need help, as I can not play the DVD and Yes, I want to I need this fixed!

2016-01-07T00:39:41+00:00 I have been trying to download the media player to play DVD's. The Windows 10 info said it would be automatically downloaded, but this has not happened.
Following instructions I check settings, update and security and check updates for KB3081704. It has not downloaded in the 5 days since "upgrading" to 10. And in looking for a free download I haven't found one that will work with 10.
I'm mostly computer illiterate, so could use some help here.
