No, its not a gimmick. To get the $25 MS Store card, using your HP device sign-in using Internet Explorer and follow the instructions http://microsoft.com/hpstream  . it'll guide you to change some settings in IE to detect your HP Stream is eligible for it or not.

Once you get the card number, you have to redeem it by 31st Dec 2015 and have to spend within 3 months.

I think this you have to do before upgrading to Windows 10 else it'll not be detected correctly.

    Hello,

I followed the link and tried to redeem the offer for three of the HP stream 7s I bought but none work. I think due to the fact that I upgraded to windows 10 first. I can't get the gift card, office 365 subscription, or the One drive space offer via online.

Is there anything I can do?

IMPORTANT NOTICE: I purchased the HP Stream, Horizon Blue 11-d010nr Notebook (11.6in).  Inside the packaging was a purple booklet that told me to redeem the code at www.Microsft.com/HPStream.

The link was a dead end.

I did a live chat with Microsoft customer service.  They said they could not help me and sent me to the Microsoft Store customer service.  Phone number:

    855-425-8769.

The agent at this number at first told me that the offer for my free $25.00 gift card had expired.  FALSE.  It expires December 2015.  When I disagreed with this response, the agent tried to give me a DIFFERENT number to call the next day.  I was not satisfied with a second transfer, so I asked to speak with a supervisor.  After being placed on hold with the agent a second time, she came back and told me that I needed to type:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/HPStream

It worked.  Why?  Because you LITERALLY have to type:

    http://www.

Yes, that was literally the issue.  So, even though it's 2015, and this is a Microsoft link offer, AND the actual pamphlet that is packaged with the laptop does NOT include the "http://" if you don't type it, the link will not work.

Also, you MUST use Internet Explorer.  If you try to use Chrome, it will not work.  Or, I assume, any other browser other than Internet Explorer.

So please, do NOT miss out on the ADVERTISED, free gift card offer.  Do not settle with being told it is expired or be tricked by the shady or woefully negligent pamphlet link.  Even though the prompt on the page you finally land on once you have the correct, full link is a pain in the bum to work through, if you follow the steps properly, it WILL work.  You can do it.  Don't miss out just because a big, gazillion dollar company derped this offer hardcore (be it accidentally or purposefully.)  And don't let the outsourced, uninformed or lazy agents brush you off and say the offer is expired.  Just type the full url as I have listed and follow the steps and it WILL work.  Good luck.  Hopefully my **** experience will help make someone else's easier or save someone else from missing out.
