Groove does not display any Album or Artist Art

I'll agree with Jason's earlier comment. Previous implementations of Media Player and Windows Media Center filled up my music library with wonky image files that stored various sizes of album art thumbnails. Most of the time the files were hidden, but once in a while (especially when moving sets of files between PCs), they'd become visible, and whoa what a mess! I was also surprised at how much disk space they all consumed.

Groove uses the album art stored within the IDv3 tag instead. Now if you have a large music collection separated into folders with folder.jpg files, then I'd recommend using a tool like the excellent (and free) Mp3tag to batch write the album art into each file's tag. Here's how:

1. Download, install, and open Mp3tag.
2. Click File > Change Directory, select the top-level folder to search for music, and click Select Folder. The mp3 files will be imported into Mp3tag.
3. Click Actions > Actions. The Action Group window is displayed.
4. Click New, type a name for the action (such as "Fix Album Art", without the quotes), and click OK. The Actions window is displayed.
5. Click New, select Import Cover from File, and click OK.
6. Type a format string for the image filename (such as "folder.jpg", without the quotes), select a metadata tag for the imported image (I typically choose Front Cover), and click OK.

Note: If you already have album art embedded into some mp3 files, you can check the Delete Album Art option to prevent Mp3tag from storing multiple cover art images in the metadata. 7. Click OK to close the Actions window and click OK to close the Action Group window. 8. Mp3tag runs the action and displays the result.

If you no longer need the assorted folder images, you can also use Mp3tag to rename/restructure you library into a fresh set of folders and then delete the old ones. Voila!

But hey, Microsoft - shame on you: this is not reasonable at all. Until now, several years after the release of this app, you simply didn't fix this yet!

Have almost 43k audio files, all of it in MP3 lame or FLAC format, stored in 2500 folders (one for each artist and the rest for every album), total of (almost) 600Gb. Every single track I have is encoded using MP3Tag with ID3v.2.3. 

People's midia library increase in time naturally, and the audio apps must be able to manage the files properly. In fact, every audio app I know can handle major data - except the ones you made - WMP AND this Groove of yours. This is unnapcetable!

When we can expect the solution?

Ever since updating to Windows 10 Pro v1703, Groove Music has been unable to correctly display the embedded album art stored in My Music folder. Post-update the album art *was* displayed as it was prior to the update but I notice Groove was, for some unknown reason, failing to display more and more art forcing me to do an app reset which, of course, resulted in my losing *all* of the album art! Frustrating to say the least as nothing I did would get them to display even though as I've said previously Media Monkey, iTunes and even the creaky old Windows Media Player had no problems showing all the art as you'd expect.

For months this issue persisted then I noticed that seven of my albums (out of 7,000+) were showing album art. Puzzled I investigated these folders to see if their ID3 tags were different but I couldn't see anything that would explain why they were showing and others weren't except that these were new CD albums which I used Media Monkey to rip them with. Not getting anywhere I decided to leave it in the hope that Microsoft might eventually fix this issue in an update. I mean clearly the issue is with Groove if every other media player (including my own Sony TV and PS4) can show the art, right?

Anyway, tonight I decided to click on the import iTunes playlist option for no other reason than it was an option I'd not used before. To my surprise it started to display album art for tracks in a playlist I'd created for my CD for my nephew. At first I didn't realise but I've just checked and all of the albums which the playlist tracks are from now show album art. Groove Music is still importing album art and I now have over 240.

What I've done in iTunes is create a playlist called All Music and added, you guessed, all my music to it to see if it will force Groove Music to update all the album art since the playlist will contains all 7,000+ albums. I will update here if it works. It's not an ideal solution but it may well be a workaround for whatever bug prevents Groove Music from detecting the album art normally. 

*EDIT*

It appears all my album art is now showing, well about 99% of it anyway as there are still a few albums missing art but the vast majority are now showing. It literally finished while I was typing this!

If anyone is having the same issue I had then it can't hurt to try it. Please let others know if this works. Thanks.

The albums with missing art still are in FLAC format, which iTunes doesn't support or recognise, thus those are not included in any of the imported playlists. Most of my music is 256/320 Kbps MP3s though so this isn't a big deal. I'm sure I'll be able to get round that eventually...

Well that didn't take long... I just created a new playlist in Groove Music called FLAC Music and right-clicked on each FLAC album to bring up the context menu then clicked to Add to > FLAC Music playlist at which point the album art instantly appears!!! This could be an alternative workaround to add album art for non-FLAC tracks too, say, if you don't have iTunes installed.

It can display, you just have to embed or hope for a match. Unfortunately, the app is not sophisticated enough to help you with that task. :(

I have ~2k albums, and all are currently displaying artwork. I have also been curating with Tag & Rename

for so long that my collection looks good in any program. :)

I am facing same issue. W8.1 music app or MIX radio can recognize it but not groove. This is very frustrating. Although Groove is high performing app but just not work with existing album arts.

This is what worked for me.  I don't know how the 2 relate, but it's all working now...

Go into File Explorer, click View > Options.  Then open the View tab again in this menu.

Deselect the option that says "always show icons, never thumbnails"

Enjoy album art from any folder (well, in my case anyway)

At some point at time Groove stoped recognize tags at all(extension doesn't matter), and reset, re-install app from store did not worked for me. But...

I have created another folder and manualy moved whole my library there, then after set destination for music folder at Groove, it magicaly found everything.

I belive, groove left some files(probably corrupted) in my old folder that prevent app from recognizing tags correctly. Now it has no problems with any file type tags, flac, aac, alac, m4a. Everything works.
