Game not working on Windows 10

I don't know if it would affect Pacific Fighters, but -

EDIT: No longer a problem since the 1511 update, but still worth considering on rare occasions.

There is one other issue that is far more common on Win10 than it was on Win7 which can stop games from loading,

or cause them to display off center (DOS based games running via DOS BOX have the off center issue).

This is using a Windows DPI scaling over 100%.

All DOS based games, and a number of early DX games, require that you setCompatibility to -

Disable display scaling on high DPI settings - This works in most instances when DPI over 100% is the problem,

but some games still require you set Windows DPI to 100%.

• While Win10 is going over the top with this DRM blocking, some DRM were also incompatible with any64bit OS

(most common in games released between '04-'06),  and they require a noCD fix to run regardless of

which 64bit OS you are using.

A noCD fix (hack) would still be required with these games on Win10 64bit, even if MS were not actively blocking

the drivers.

• From around 200 games I have installed (I only reinstalled two games on Win10 with known 64bit DRM issues to

verify if  the DRM  blocking would stop them from installing as well as not running),

I have only a few games that will not run on either my Nvidia GTX770 or Intel HD4000 graphics

( a couple of games will run only on the HD4000 on Win7 as well).

These games are (referencing chicken scratchings I call notes, so not sure if one or two got fixed) ...

- Chronicles of Riddick - HD4000 only, with DPI @100%.

EDITS:

- Thief 2 - HD4000 only, but too dark to play.  Fixed

-Hidden and Dangerous 2,  fixed

• Dark Messiah of Might and Magic - Not running on Nvidia but OK on Intel HD4000.

Oddworld - Munches Oddesy fixed.

- MOH-PA has bad stutter in the FMV sequences, but the game runs well.  fixed.

- Vietcong has flashing on the setup screen, but the game runs well.  fixed

- Beyond Good and Evil will not scale to 4:3 aspect ratio (I like playing in the original format and don't mind black bars). This is a GOG version. One of the only original retail disk games I could not source a noCD for.

• I can't verify because I've reformatted the HDD with Win10, but I'm pretty sure Vampire The Masquerade, Bloodlines

did run on Win10 ( Verified that is does run on Win10 using the unofficial 9.4 patch).

• Two of my driving games don't recognise my Logitech G27 wheel - NFS-MW and Col McRea 05.

Mysterious. Other driving games, both older and newer do recognise G27.

• Not too bad, but not good enough for what's been touted as the 'best gaming Windows ever'.

Maybe Monopoly$oft need to change that to 'best Windows for future gaming. Let your old games die'.

Or maybe they are being paid a commission by the publishers who are flooding the market with 'updated'

old games ?

Thanks for your response, but, it DOES, in fact, affect Pacific Fighters.  When I pop in the disc, it comes up and says that I have to run as administrator, which I'm already an administrator.

That computer crashed after I installed Win10, and I went back with a new laptop running Win7.  Now, I can't even access the external drive that houses the games.  THAT issue tells me that I don't have permission to access the hard drive.  I can't access thumbdrives or anything when I plug them in.  They all give me the same response, tells me to go to the "security" tab and change the settings.  When I click on the "Properties" tab, there is no Security tab.

I also run Microsoft Flight Simulator 10.....MICROSOFT....AND even THAT game won't work on this machine.

I guess, the best fix for me is to build my own desktop machine, go back to XP just for the purpose of playing my games.  This whole Microsoft thing is baloney.  You hit the nail on the head when they called them "MonopolySoft."

Boss, if you have any other ideas, I'm all ears, or eyes so to speak.

My problem is that Windows 10 will not allow any older game discs to load. I bought Sim City a few months ago and after hours of frustration and research on the internet, I finally came to the conclusion that Windows 10 will not recognize ANY previous disc games! It is really devastating! I've tried everything and nothing works. I asked computer technicians in their store if they could make it work and they said, no, there is no way with Windows 10. I wish I'd never heard of Windows 10! There is not way out of it except to PAY, of course!

It's not ANY previous older game discs.  It's only the game discs which have certain forms of DRM on them.  SecuROM and SafeDisc were extremely misguided attempts by game distributors to foil pirating.  It didn't work anyway and now we are paying for it.  You might try to find NoCD cracks that will allow you to play the game without the disc.  But if there is not a NoCD or the distributor doesn't release a patch to get rid of the DRM, we are essentially screwed.

From one website blog:

"Windows 10 won't run games that employ SafeDisc or certain versions of Securom DRM, rendering hundreds of old disc-based games potentially unplayable without complex workarounds. Games which used these forms of DRM range from Crimson Skies to Grand Theft Auto 3, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 to the original The Sims.

Yet despite this change coming in Windows 10, blame can't likely be placed at Microsoft's feet. For one, SafeDisc is notoriously insecure and Microsoft's decision to block it from their new operating system will likely protect more users than it hurts."

No changes in programs , Games from Windows store. No error message. When select game from list it halts partway into loading sequence. The same happens with Microsoft store.

Don't know.  I'm lost.  I put my flight simulators on my external hard drive, and I can no longer access that.  I don't know where the change came from, or what program made the change, but, none of my thumbdrives or my external hard drive can be accessed, and it tells me I don't have permission, even as administrator of this laptop.  No dice.

I put 3 games on my laptop, directly to the on board hard drive.  Cal of Duty Modern Warfare, Pacific Fighters, and Microsoft Flight Sim 10.  They all work perfectly.  The only issue that I had was Pacific Fighters.  When I tried to run it from the disc, it said the disc was not accessible.  I put a no-cd crack on it, and it works perfectly.  Call of Duty has to have the disc, but it works fine.

Ridiculously confusing to say the least, but, they're working.
