Mouse and keyboard input not working after windows 10 upgrade from windows 7.

If you’ve upgraded a PC to Windows 10 it is  not performed a clean install, but an upgrade — you’ll have an easy option that lets you revert to the last version of Windows. To access this, open the Start menu and select Settings. Click the “Update & security” icon and select “Recovery.”

You should see a “Go back to Windows 7” or “Go back to Windows 8.1” option. Click the Get started button to get rid of your Windows 10 install and restore your previous Windows install. Microsoft will ask you why you want to go back.

If it’s been over a month — or if you’ve run the DIsk cleanup tool and removed the “Previous Windows installations” files or deleted the C:\Windows.old folder by hand — you’ll no longer see this option. Windows 10 appears to automatically remove the old Windows installation files after a month to free up space.

Glad it has worked for you.  I simply have decided to stay with Win 7 forever as I will not waste any more of my time working to solve a MS problem.   I do have Win 10 on a couple of other machines and it is a good OS but certainly not enough better than Win 7 to put up with all this ****.

Same problem with my system: old Dell Vostro 200. Dell say that they don't support win10 on this machine. Windows upgrade checker reported specs were sufficient to run win10, so I went ahead with an upgrade from win7 (which was also an upgrade from Vista!).  Auto upgrades failed to install win10, so MS support got it going after downloading a file.

Upgrade went pretty smoothly, except for a wireless NIC card that too is pretty old, But I got this working too using generic Atheros driver. All pretty sweet, and I was happy  and liked win10, but decided to do a refresh to clear out the clutter. This was where I hit the snag.

On reboot, mouse and keyboard did not respond on the windows login screen- usb ports all non functioning, but the m and k did work on the bios screen. Tried all the suggestions, but as no ps2 port could not respond to any screen prompts. I normally use an (old) Logitech m/k combo, but neither this or hard wired m and k worked. I then tried a clean install of win 10 without success either, and the same problem of m/k not working. I am guessing that Win 10 on a reset or clean install did not recognise my mobo, and could not install correct ( or any?) usb drivers.  Strange, because after the initial upgrade to win10, Logitech devices worked fine, it was only with the reset, and a subsequent clean install that the usb problem arose.

I used my original win7 install disc to go back to win 7, and used a system image I had made before upgrading to win10.  However, now win7 did not like my Logitech devices, and reported that they may have malfunctioned. Wired m and k did work fine, but even after plugging in /removing the Logitech wireless device, win7 detected a new device, but could not install correct drivers and reported the malfunction.

Last resort , thinking win10 had destroyed my Logitech m /k was to unplug the computer once it was running, and replaced wired m and k with the Logitech wireless device. windows7 then installed the correct driver. All working sweet again. 

No thanks to MS because of many hours of wasted time and frustration.

I had this problem too. Keyboard NOT recognised, but mouse was.

It happened shortly after the 1510 update for one user account only. I think the 1510 update was just coincidence. My problem turned out to be that "Filter Keys" was switched on.

When I was typing the speakers were clicking, but no keystroke was registering.

To check for this problem, navigate to:

-Settings

-Ease of access

-Keyboard

Ensure that Filter keys toggle is off.

On my system I have the top 4. On screen keyboard, Sticky keys, Toggle keys and Filter keys all OFF.

See if this fixes your problem.

Apparently Filter Keys can be inadvertently activated by holding down a shift key for 8 seconds.
