Directplay on Windows 10

Okay, here's my problem. I never see "Legacy Components" anywhere. 

Here is the process I keep seeing suggested, paralleled with what I see in my system that I think is comparable:

1. Right click Start

       Ok

2. Click Programs and Features

      Click Apps and Features

3. Click Turn Windows features on or off

     Click Manage Optional Features

4. Make sure there is a check in Legacy Components

     Here's the problem, there is no such option. This list consists of:

     Contact support

     (A list of various English input options)

     Internet Explorer 11

     MS Quick Assist

     Windows Media Player

5. Click the + to expand

    BUT at the top of that list is a + sign that is labeled "Add a Feature." It leads to a list of optional fonts, a "Graphics Tools" options and "Windows Developer Mode"

Never am I presented with anything resembling "legacy" or "DirectPlay."

This is not the first time I've had trouble following a step-by-step menu process recommended online. Do I have some weird variant of Windows installed on my system? I dunno. I know the canned response is "upgrade," but it isn't like we all have money to throw at our software every time the OS changes. And I know you all agree with that last part. I'm just frustrated and venting. It kills me that I've checked a half dozen search results so far and they all point to that same video like it's the Holy Grail and NO ONE but me seems to find it useless.

its an easy fix just follow the instructions on the previous page its annoying you have to go through such measures though.

Apple is no  better in this respect. As they move forward with operating systems' functionality, certain components simply cause the process to become less than optimal. I've hit a similar problem with The Sims 3 on Mac with the last big update there. I've always been a dual system user, and since I am a major TS3 player, my last big hardware investment was a Win system. I knew full well that Win has its issues as well. No one system is perfect. Otherwise we would be a one system world.

That being said. This sucks. I am also on Win 10 and looking for a solution to this. I am using an older version of Adobe Photoshop Elements and although the main app is (still) working fine, I've just found out that the Organizer is dependent on DirectPlay. And the video everyone is pointing to doesn't seem to be relevant to Win 10 at all. The interface is completely different than 8 and the menu tree looks nothing like what the vid is showing. Maybe there is a solution buried in the comments, so I may go back there to look. But it isn't as easy as Quark02 implies.

Question you people at microsoft should have thought about... IF  THIS FEATURE IS CONSIDERED OBSOLETE WHATS THE POINT OF BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY FOR PROGRAMS FOR OPERATING SYSTEMS MICROSOFT DOESN'T SUPPORT ANYMORE???? thus the option from right click troubleshoot compatibility... like it really worked anyway for most older not updated programs but still if your gonna include such a feature video games are a programs users like to run on their computers...
