Why are we forced to update to 8.1?

The update can be avoided for only so long.  There are people here who have had the update start without warning, and complete without recourse.  It is being forced on many people.

Then I agree that is deplorable.  People have a RIGHT not to have the latest O/S if they don't want it! It's THEIR money, after all.

For myself, I love 8.1. But others don't have to.

Nothing is being forced here. The problem is automatic updating. When you allow automatic updating you are giving Microsoft full control of your computer in this aspect. All users should have updating set to check for updates only and before installing any update click on more information and find out what the update is for. If you don't want the update hide it.

To blindly let somebody else put something in your computer is nobody's fault but your own.

It's a little bit late to claim that the update isn't being forced.  Some people are getting it even though they have automatic updates turned off.  Read through the several threads on this issue.  It is happening.
