Why are we forced to update to 8.1?

I know my voice won't be heard but I must vent.
Who gives them the right to force a download on MY computer that I purchased.
I resent this and feel violated. I am done. No more.
Maybe start treating customers with respect in the future?

2015-01-02T18:16:16+00:00 I have found that once the update for KB3008273 is installed, your computer will automatically start the upgrade to Windows 8.1. If you REALLY want to avoid upgrading to Windows 8.1, make sure this update is NOT installed.

2015-01-01T20:26:11+00:00 I too was forced to update without my permission and i had uac off and automatic updates off!!! it's 430am in my country right now and im waiting for my computer to complete updating for hours as i have a working dateline to meet. I am typing this from my phone and am extremely outrage with this intrusion by microsoft. I hope you get sued ms. ms is lucky that mac is so pricey. But hey you get what you pay for right.

2014-12-26T18:33:47+00:00 @Critt59: Sorry to burst your bubble but my computers are set to check only, yet I still was forced the 8.1 update down my throat. And I always read the backgrounder on each patch, while this takes a while it allows me to choose what I really need and not install anything that they deem worthwhile. So it's not people's fault but MS going behind our backs.
