"I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now"

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run.

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

Hope this helps you

If your not part of the solution,

you're part of the problem.

i already don't like how win 8 & 8.1 look (i have 8.1), i like win 7 look better also all the pointless app on start screen (weather is only1 that can be, most others are pointess), they always come with new windows, from baste of what i have heard it has so much new stuff that i don't need & i bet some of the stuff have background processes that take ram & as a gamer i see a problem in that, also i bet win 10 itself takes a bit more ram then 8, i doubt i will ever install 10, just like with new mobile phones they become more & more like PC'S over time, but i don't need the functions they have so i buy a cheaper one that has less functions, that's less like PC

they should do it like, it runs only when app gets update & that win OS overall does not bother user while hes in game, like all other processes that have  scheduled work will be on hold, its just sometimes they start to work when i'm in game & then game starts to lag a bit (compattelrunner.exe is one of the processes that runs sometimes, so i'm sure it also runs sometimes when i'm in game to), its not about ram, its about that running process also using disk/hard drive just like game, MS PLZ FIX THIS ISSUE WITH UPDATE

I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now. In my opinion it is the best Windows OS out there right now the way it functions etc.

It is also the most invasive O.S. ever.

    You have no privacy left.

in exchange, You get bells and whistles like live tiles.

You get forced APPS and Windows UPDATES

in exchange, you are getting the right to GIVE up control of your own computer.

You get ONEDRIVE aka: Cloud, shoved deep and unstoppable.

in exchange, what you type, what you save and very close to think is stored on a computer...ELSEWHERE.

    You get FREE O.S.

in exchange, you now have ADS built into your O.S. being a bigger nuisance than SPAM ever was.

oh and lets not forget, FREE O.S. ... was just a way to get everyone onboard. Don't expect future

    versions/upgrades to remain FREE.

Basically, I think the price paid for Windows 10 and overall Cloud Services is not only TOO HIGH and also opens so many risks to personal privacy and security.

I keep hearing praise for it but what I also notice is the praise is of the CUTE, NEAT variety.  Nothing by those who praise it about security, ability to turn off invasive functions, the advantages of FORCED apps/software etc.

For them, 'cute and neat' is HUGE.

For me, it is no better than a built in, Virus systematically controlling, spamming and not stoppable and for that, "the way it functions" is a very poor choice of words of praise.
