"I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now"

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run.

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

Hope this helps you

If your not part of the solution,

you're part of the problem.

I was talking about installing packages from source. (missing libraries)

When I spoke about his vision it was not a direct quote from Torvalds but given that his book about it was called "Just for Fun", it does indicate his initial vision.

I agree with him that Microsoft are better at making money than software. Much of my recent annoyance with MS is based in the fact that they are neglecting traditional Windows users in favour of richer corporate companies. This is the path to the dark side, Borland went down that path years ago and were destroyed.

However, programmers (like me) deserve to get paid so being good at making money gives Microsoft the ability  to hire the best programmers. Unfortunately sometimes they have let the bean-counters gain too much control and try to get away with cheaper programmers.

One of the great things that Linux and Linus himself promote is community based development.

Microsoft has also tried to embrace the community which is progressive for a corporate machine.

My only awareness of an Apple community is when I see them lined up on the street waiting to get something they can buy on line :-)

Maybe, but that is not a link to a Microsoft site.

That is someone's opinion about what CompatTelRunner does.

What I would like is the truth about what it does from Microsoft!

This thread has been going on for years now without a proper response from Microsoft.

Maybe all the Microsoft staff have their head in the cloud and don't bother to read user forums anymore.

Maybe they are cloud focused so that they can get their next job working for Google.
