"I disagree. I think you should get Windows 10 now"

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run.

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

Hope this helps you

If your not part of the solution,

you're part of the problem.

You may get your wish. I believe that Valve are supposed to be producing a Steam Operating System with corresponding hardware. I don't have that option because I'm also a developer. MS does **** me off a lot with this type of thing but they are still better than Linux, which is better than Apple.

As a developer, you should know better...

MS better than Linux ! As If.

    Linux software installation:

    1. Run the install
    2. It tells you that you are missing a library
    3. Get the library.
    4. Re-run the install
    5. It tells you that you are missing another library

Repeat steps 3 to 5 until you get bored and go back to Windows.

Windows has it flaws like the registry and poor security.

These flaws have come from trying to give customers a better product.

Bill Gates had a vision that every home in America would have a PC with a Microsoft OS.

He came close to achieving that vision.

Nowadays Microsoft is not run by such a visionary so it has more problems.

The vision for Linux was Linus Torvalds saying "lets see if I can get this to work".

He came close to achieving that vision.

The difference is that Linux is really only good for specialist scenarios.

I am a developer but I am also a gamer.

    I use my Windows to:

Play Fallout 4 and many other games.

Develop using Delphi, Java, C#, C++/DirectX, php and wordpress.

    Watch DVD and Blu-ray disks.

    Make Video calls.

    Listen to music.

    Create videos.

    Browse the internet.

A lot of this would not be possible without the competition that Linux provides to Microsoft.

I like Linux but it is simply not as good as Windows.

Maybe in a few years when we get a release of Microsoft Lindows :-)
