Wondering what CompatTelRunner.exe is doing on my computer?

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

  1. I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
  2. My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
  3. My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
  4. After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
  5. From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run. 

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

That is the compatibility update for win 7 RTM.  Care to tell us more about the problem?

    I know what you mean.  My windows Store App is broken and Microsoft can't fix it.  It doesn't run at all and it's corrupted.  It is too corrupted to uninstall and too corrupted to upgrade, but it resides on my hared drive unable to run.  It broke from a Microsoft PowerShell command to restore all Windows 10 apps.  This command was supposed to fix my nonfunctional Start Menu and Search functions.  It did neither and it was determined that the command breaks the windows Store and other apps in Windows 10 build 10586.  So the command broke my Windows Store App.  I traced the Start Menu and Search functions to a permissions issue which I corrected without any help from Microsoft, but the Windows Store is still broken.

    Microsoft Store App is broken?  Is that a bad thing?

    Had the same exact issue on my work PC.  After an update to the newest Windows version (which MS stopped putting out soon after) MS store and other store apps stopped working like calculator and Cortana.  I came to the same conclusion, it was a security issue on some of the windows folders, but I couldn't fix it.  Every time I fixed one thing two things got broke.  I ended up doing a "Reset this PC" with the keep my files options.  It fixed everything from MS Store and kept most of my settings, but I spent the next few days re-installing all the non-Store programs.  The keep my files option will keep a copy of your users, programdata, program files folders as well as Windows folder and place them in a new sub-folder.  This turned out to be a good thing because I could copy over program setting files, ini's, etc., over after reinstalling the programs.  Good luck.
